Chris Brown Sentenced to 5 Years of Probation

chris_brown_sentence.png After entering into a plea agreement with prosecutors last June that guaranteed no jail time, singer Chris Brown today was sentenced to five years of probation and 180 days of community service by an L.A. County Superior Court Judge, the LA Times reports. He will also have to take a year-long domestic violence class and stay 50 yards away from pop singer Rihanna, who he attacked and threatened last February, for the next five years. Brown will be under the direct supervision of the Richmond, Virginia's chief of police. If convicted, he would have been sentenced to jail for a maximum of five years. In July, he publicly apologized on YouTube for what he did.

Pretty stiff sentence I would say...I think I personally would've chosen jail over Richmond, VA. I suppose it could've been worse...Petersburg or Portsmouth or Suffolk or...nevermind.

Felony assault nets no jail time...hmmm

apology accepted... again

I was sitting around discussing domestic violence with some friends one day. As an unscientific, unofficial, informal poll, I asked everyone who had experienced, witnessed, or been effected by domestic violence at some time in their lives to raise their hands.

5 out of 5 of us raised our hands, making all of us realized just how common a problem domestic violence is.

I'm glad Chris Brown is getting some help and learning how to deal with this type of anger. I hope some of his 180 hours of community service involves using his celebrity in making us all more aware that there are better ways of dealing with anger at a spouse or significant other than hitting them.

I'm glad Rihanna wasn't more seriously hurt, or worse yet, killed.

He deserves jail time. Perhaps that would show his fans how serious his actions were.
