Taking the sports world and yet another NFL franchise hostage for the second consecutive offseason, The Quarterback Who Shall Not Be Named has officially become the quarterback of the Minnesota Vikings signing a one-year deal worth between $10 to $12 million. A day after the Fox Sport's Jay Glazer reported the rumors, it has come true one day later. Former Vikings wide receiver and current ESPN NFL analyst Cris Carter also reports that TQBWSNBN will also start in the Viking's preseason game on Friday against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Retiring for the second time in February after one season with the New York Jets TQBWSNBN flirted with making a comeback with the Vikings. After getting arthroscopic surgery for a small tear in his right rotator cuff in May, he continued to throw the pigskin to high school kids in a local Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Finally TQBWSNBN told the Vikings brass on July 28 that he would stay retired seemingly to end any further speculation.
With training camp over and the preseason getting underway it looks like TQBWSNBN decided it would be the perfect time to sign a contract. I promised everyone that I wouldn't mention anything about TQBWSNBN until there was some resolution. So there you go.
Other Sports Dump
- Tomorrow's Matt Kemp bobblehead giveaway at the Dodger game against the St. Louis Cardinals is close to a sellout. The figurine depicts Kemp crossing home plate after hitting a home run pointing his fingers to the heavens. There's also a cute video produced by the Dodgers of the bobblehead going around town to get a tattoo, buy some clothes and shoes complete with a special guest. Those of us who live East of Western Ave. will no doubt recognize all of these stores. Kemp ranks 11th in batting average in the National League at .312. He is on pace to become the seventh Dodger to hit 20 homers and steal 20 bases, the first since Shawn Green in 2001.
- The Nationals and their first round draft pick Steven Strasburg agreed to a four-year $15.1 million deal just 77 seconds before the deadline. Strasburg was a star hard throwing right handed pitcher at San Diego State who had a 13-1 record this past season with the Aztecs.
- The Syracuse Orangemen football team announced their starting quarterback: Greg Paulus. Paulus spent the last four years at Duke University as a point guard. Although he was a lauded quarterback in high school, he had not played competitive football in four years. This should be interesting.
