Pencil This In: Belgian Beers and Beethoven
EXPERIMENTAL FILM*
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences presents “Infinite Animation: The Work of Adam Beckett” tonight at 8 pm at the Linwood Dunn Theater. Beckett (1950-1979) was an animator and visual effects artist whose career straddled the line between art film and the special effects industry. He worked on big budget films like Star Wars and Piranha, but he’s more remembered for his experimental art films.
FILM
In Search of Beethoven is a feature documentary on the famed composer, and includes interviews with numerous performers and experts, who reveal new insights on the man and his music. Interviewees include Gianandrea Noseda, Sir Roger Norrington, Riccardo Chailly, Claudio Abbado, Fabio Luisi, Frans Brüggen, Ronald Brautigam, Hélène Grimaud, Vadim Repin, Janine Jansen, Paul Lewis, Lars Vogt, and Emanuel Ax. The film also contains more than 60 live performances. The screening’s part of the Downtown Film Festival Los Angeles at 7:30 pm at the Grammy Museum.
BELGIAN BEER
Lucky Baldwins Pubs in Sierra Madre and Pasadena celebrate the awesomeness of Belgian Beers now through Aug. 2030. There will be 50 taps running on hard to find Belgian beers. Commemorative glasses and shirts will also be available. This is a twice-yearly event that shouldn’t be missed.

Richie Unterberger presents and signs White Light/White Heat: The Velvet Underground Day by Day tonight at 7 pm at Book Soup. The Velvet Underground remain one of the most influential bands in the history of rock, but was, of course, commercially unsuccessful in its day. “In White Light/White Heat, noted rock writer and historian Richie Unterberger analyzes the band's career and influence in forensic detail, drawing on dozens of new interviews with band members and associates, previously undiscovered archive sources, and a vast knowledge of the music of the times.”

K & L WIne Merchants Hollywood presents Pierre Ferrand Cognac Tasting at Blue Palms Brewhouse from 7 to 9 pm tonight. Tickets are $50. This tasting is for experienced tasters and novices alike. “The experience will include the Brouillis (first distillation) and the Bonne-chauff (fresh eau-de-vie), Pierre Ferrand's exceptional line of Grand Champagne Cognac, as well as some very rare and single vintage bottlings.”
