Jazz on the Lawn
The City of Santa Monica Cultural Affairs Division hosts another evening of Jazz on the Lawn at City Hall tonight from 5-7pm featuring the Grupo Falso Baiano. The group plays the blended sounds of choro music--lots of percussion and soul. Admission is free, and you can park free after 4 at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium.
Chamber Orchestra
This afternoon at 4 at the Kirk Douglas Theatre the Culver City Chamber Orchestra is presenting “A Look into the Future” in a program featuring Aaron Copland’s “Lincoln Portrait,” with narration by Alan Chapman, KUSC radio host and popular music lecturer. The All-American program includes Copland’s “Fanfare for the Common Man” and “Appalachian Spring,” as well as John Williams’ theme from “Schindler’s List” and the March from “1941." Celebrate Madonna with Swagger
Silver Lake's Swagger is a Sunday destination that offers food, drinks, music and entertainment for a gay/mixed crowd. Tonight they celebrate the Material Girl on her 51st Birthday, and they say that means "it's basically a rule for any gay event to ... holiday, celebrate!" There will be Madonna tunes in the DJ's rotation, and at 6:30 a comedy performance by Luna & Ginsburg (as Madonna and Lourdes). It all happens at Barbarella Bar, 4-11 p.m. (21 and over only, no cover).
