District 9 is generating the sort of low-level buzz that is often the sign of an unexpected, breakout hit. Thank God, the plug got pulled on Halo or District 9 never would have been made. Also, thank God that the increasingly on-the-nose Peter Jackson didn't direct it. Davis Guggenheim isn't nearly the documentary filmmaker that a Kirby Dick or an Errol Morris is, but the subject matter of It Might Get Loud kept me enthralled (LAist review here). What Zeppelin fan wouldn't love to see Jimmy Page not only play with The Edge and Jack White but show off his record collection, too. Not sure what to make of The Goods. Critics are torching it, but someone compared it to Wet Hot American Summer which was only incredibly hilarious and inventive.
If you thought that Ashton Kutcher was annoying now, wait until you see Spread. Miyazaki is obviously a master filmmaker so seeing Ponyo is a requirement. It will be interesting to see theaters full of very young kids and serious, bearded cinephiles. I like both McAdams and Bana so The Time Traveler's Wife is a possibility. Something tells me that I'm waiting for the DVD, though. Bandslam is a naked attempt to piggyback on the HSM fame of Vanessa Hudgens. Poor form. Earth Days is about -- wait for it -- Earth Days. György Pálfi channels Jeunet for the fantastical Taxidermia. See it! I saw Grace at Sundance. Worst movie of the festival. Missed I Sell the Dead at the LAFF. It looked intriguing and, besides, any movie with Hellboy is worth a look.

Headed to go see "It Might Get Loud" tonight at the arclight.
I read the article and q&a from Guitar World Magazine and I was sold!
Does anyone know for certain if there are any screenings of Ponyo in the Los Angeles and Orange County, CA area that are in Japanese language with english subtitles? I have been looking everywhere online and in the newspapers and trades and cannot find any screenings. I really cannot stand english dubbed foreign films, especially when it is a Miyazaki film. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
