Perennial rock idols Depeche Mode have been breaking hearts up and down the coast of California this week, after first canceling their Bay Area show Wednesday night, and now canceling tonight's show scheduled for the Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre outside San Diego in Chula Vista. This evening's much-anticipated gig had the plug pulled on it due to lead singer Dave Gahan's heath: "Doctors have ordered complete vocal rest for [him] for several days," explains San Diego's 10News.com.
The UK based band, a favorite of old-school KROQ-ers and new wavers with a bent for the darker stuff, has a massive fan base of enthusiastic fans, not to mention four area shows starting Sunday--two nights at the Hollywood Bowl, one night at the Honda Center in Anaheim, and one night at the Santa Barbara Bowl. San Diego fans are SOL because a new "date won't be scheduled this year" due to "the band's busy schedule."
Depeche Mode has tour dates scheduled all over the world until the end of February 2010. Meanwhile, LA fans are just hoping Gahan will make it through the next few days...

You can follow the band's official Twitter account (twitter.com/depechemode) for breaking news, as well as their official site (depechemode.com).
Hope to see everyone at the Bowl...
Daniel (full disclosure: I am the band's webmaster). :)
there should be an alternative event for all those crushed fans (myself included) in case they don't make it to LA...keeping my fingers crossed
FINGERS CROSSED :D
I hope Dave is well.
Very disappointed of the cancellation concert at the Cricket amphitheatre in Chula Vista(SD county).First of all, drove all the way from central Orange County. It was a 3.5 hour drive(after 3:00pm,that 5 south freeway is a traffic jam from hell). Was maybe about 10 miles from the exit ramp when luckily the radio station I was listening to announced,"Depeche Mode's performance has been cancell in Chula Vista".WTF!!!Some people may say,see them at the Honda theatre on the 19th(well,I'm just 15 minute drive on the freeway). That day I'm schedule to work.I have Thursday&Fridays(13th&14th)off from work.Plus,it's better to watch a band perform at an outdoor venue than an indoor where it's hot and humid.
Haven't seen Depeche in concert since May 1994 during the "Songs of Faith And Devotion" tour.First time was at the Rose Bowl for "Music for the Masses" in 1988.It would of been my last time to see them, because I'm getting too old with 2 little kids.Sorry, but there's an old saying,"throwing in my two cents".
