Members of two rival gangs clashed last night at an Arco station at the corner of Laurel Canyon and Vanowen in North Hollywood, resulting in a shootout that left one teenage boy dead, according to the Daily News.

The confrontation took place shortly before 9 last night. "Officers responding to a report of shots fired found several bullet casings on the ground, police said. Soon after, authorities learned that a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the upper torso had been taken to Valley Presbyterian Hospital."

19-year-old Sergio Ramirez was soon pronounced dead at the hospital, and hours later police took Nestor Otero, 24, and Bryan Torres, 19, into custody on suspicion of the boys' murder. The pair "were being held at the Van Nuys Jail in lieu of $1 million each," while police work to determine what happened at the gas station. One witness told reporters "that a scuffle had broken out between two groups," and that "during the melee, guns were drawn and shots were fired." A vehicle believed to have been part of the incident was towed from the hospital overnight.
