Weekend Movie Guide: No Joe or Go Joe?

Paramount refused to screen G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra for critics which is usually a huge, obvious warning that the film is an unmitigated disaster. Then again, maybe the studio is still just chafing from the deserved reaming given to Transformers 2: Racist CGI Porn by reviewers. In any case, G.I. Joe is obviously on the "skip" list. The consensus on Julie & Julia (LAist review here) appears to be that the movie would have benefited from more Julia and less Julie. To get a true grasp of what an amazing actress Meryl Streep is, Netflix the following movies and watch them in this order: Doubt, Silkwood, Sophie's Choice, Stuck on You.

A Perfect Getaway (LAist review here) would probably have been better served by being released in the dead of winter. At least then the glorious scenery would have distracted viewers from the cinematic calamity occurring on-screen. Similarly, Cold Souls would probably be considered a landmark film had it been released before Being John Malkovich. Sure, they are different films, but they just feel like sisters (with Cold Souls being the ugly one). For some true invention, try Paper Heart (LAist review here). Half-phony, half-real it's a documentary (sort of) that will win over even the most cynical of audiences. Charlyne Yi defines the word "winning".

While a few of the captions are quite amusing, I have to wonder if the reviewer actually enjoys movies.

Ha! I love movies! I go to the movie 4-5 nights a week. The captions are just my juvenile attempts to make my friends laugh. They have nothing to do with how I feel about a particular film. Unless, of course, a movie totally blows.

The captions are great! I think I will eventually go for G.I. Joe... on DVD. It looks like a total crap load of awesome fun.

Im always givin JT crap about how I think he hates all movies. But in reality he has never steered me wrong. I think the captions are "drink out your nose" funny...
