Tonight and tomorrow night, the LAPD will be conducting a couple DUI checkpoints around the city. "Our Message is simple: If we catch you drunk, you will be arrested," they say.

So far this year, the North Hollywood Division has experienced 87 driving under the influence related and 667 “Hit and Run” traffic collisions. In Hollywood, there have been 66 driving under influence-related and 662 hit and run traffic collisions. To that end, DUI checkpoints will be set up in North Hollywood at Vineland Avenue and Burbank Boulevard tonight and next week Friday at Highland Avenue and Willoughby Avenue. Additionally, one will be set up tonight by the California Highway Patrol at Colorado and Rosemead boulevards in Pasadena.

And beware rush hour drivers, these checkpoints begin at 6 p.m., according to police.

Tomorrow night, a checkpoint will be set up in Venice at Lincoln Boulevard and Lucille Avenue (near Venice Blvd.) from 7:30 p.m.- 3:00 a.m.

Oh yes, some notes from an attorney friend of mine:

Admit nothing to police, say as little as possible, look straight ahead, provide driver's license and registration, refuse Field Sobriety Tests, refuse portable alcohol screening device, DO NOT refuse a breath test at station or blood test.

Bottom line. . . don't give the police probable cause to continue their investigation but always agree to a blood or breath test at station. If you refuse the blood or breath test at station, your license is suspended for one year.
