Freed Current TV journalists Laura Ling and Euna Lee arrived with former President Bill Clinton and his team shortly before 6 this morning at Burbank's Bob Hope Airport. The private aircraft went straight to "a heavily secured hangar to meet the waiting crowd, which included former Vice President Al Gore and reporters and photographers," according to LA Now. There Ling, 32, and Lee, 36, were met by their husbands, Lee's 4-year-old daughter Hana, and parents and siblings.
Before former Vice President and Current TV co-founder Gore offered remarks of welcome and appreciation, Ling spoke to the crowd, expressing gratitude to the many people who worked to free her and her co-worker from their captivity and sentence to 12 years in a hard labor camp. The pair had not yet been to the camp, but Ling said she'd thought the day they'd be transferred loomed imminent; it was to their surprise that thirty hours before they landed in Burbank they were escorted to a meeting.
Explains Ling: "We were taken to a location and when we walked through the door we saw standing before us President Bill Clinton. We were shocked but we knew instantly in our hearts that the nightmare of our lives was finally coming to an end. And now we stand here home and free."

That must be the most confusing caption I've ever read, lol. =D
Well, to the AP's credit, it does make perfect sense, it's just an image with a lot of people/relationships to name and actions to describe. Our Twitter-era minds must be losing their elasticity; it took me a slow read-through, too! :)
Nah, Twitter-era minds have nothing to do with it. The caption is just poorly written (eg. "as they joined by", and "Euna Lee, after Ling and Euna Lee, standing right to Ling,").
you know, i take it back. for some reason it made sense earlier (pre-coffee?) and now i see how the AP's sentence is beyond whack. i've edited it. thanks guys, and sorry! what the what was i thinking?
umm, i think some writers just need to join parenthetical anonymous.
There's a direct flight from North Korea to BUR? Holy crap BUR is amazing.
it IS amazing! :) i can't believe they were practically in my backyard.
that picture of them both crying as they approach their families made me tear up...good job, bill!
hahahaha, Caleb
I'm glad the girls made it back to the USA but it would not have hurt me any if it was a year from now either. Nothing like saving the world from pollution hey Mr. Gore, round trip flight to North Korea, a round trip flight for Al to L.A, all the news services flying in there top reports to cover the homecoming, all the news trucks driving to Burbank airport for news coverage. Al has always said every little bit adds to your carbon foot print you leave on this earth!
"it would not have hurt me any if it was a year from now either."
wow, that's pretty insensitive.
You do understand how many US soldiers died oversea last week, right? Protecting the two journalist freedoms being Americans and working for Al Gore. As much as it sucks South Korea had a case being the journalist did not have permission to be in the country.
