Bootlegger's - 'Drink Local' in downtown Fullerton. Rustic Rye is very high on the hops bitterness scale. But its big malty flavor, well balanced with toasty rye, spice and crisp citrus notes give it a clean, not overly hopped finish! (Greg Thompson)

The second annual Brew Haw Haw last Saturday attracted a medium-sized but lively (not rowdy) crowd 'Drinking for a Good Cause' to benefit of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. It was nice to not have to wait in big lines for the food or beverages as the weather wasn't as blisteringly hot as last last year or days just prior.
There was was nothing micro about the full bodied tastes from microbreweries and brewpubs like Firestone-Walker, Lagunitas, Pyramid, Karl Strauss, and Mendocino Brewing. The summer brews and hefeweizen/wheat beers were popular, and even Sierra Nevada added Kellerweis hefe to its lineup.
For Designated Drivers and teetotalers, non-alcoholic drinks included HONEST
(not just tea anymore), POM Wonderful, and State of Mind Water. The lovely Coca Cola Ladies also served their eponymous soda. Careful though - the three refreshing and innocuous-sounding ciders were HARD!! Delicious food was served up by BJ's Brewhouse, Stonefire Grill, Bon Appetit at the Getty, 'We Bring It To You Gourmet Catering', Pop Chips, and Everybody's NUTS! Pistachios.
Live entertainment included returning Host Bil Dwyer and and an encore live performance by SF Bay Area's Blackstone Heist. They were even better than last year. Their music was rockin' and lively, but not loud enough to drown out serious beer discussion.

It was a nice relaxing day where you were able to enjoy a nice cold one.
Although, true story, I did see a guy wearing a "Sun's Out, Guns Out" sleeveless tee.
Proof and my time at Brew Haw Haw:

too bad this piece didn't run LAST week
Wow. I had no idea this was going on....at least there's next year?
Public City parks are probably a bad place to host beer parties, not? This would never happen in Griffith Park except that the Autry controls those 11 acres(leases them for $1/year from all you taxpayers). Autry is turning into a corporate venture after raiding the Southwest Museum of its most valuable assets. I'm sure they got a hefty fee or split the "take" with CFF. CFF - find another venue for next year or you might get a black-eye for hosting it at Autry which I'd hate to see happen. Read the truth about Autry's corporate greed and proposed massive expansive at Mayor Sam's blog or Southwest Museum Coalition. It's too political for LA Times to cover, of course.

I agree with TrueStory's post. In a park poor city like Los Angeles, surely the brew ha ha could be held at another location. The Autry wants to expand, however, it seems the only way they can draw crowds are by hosting non "Western Museum" type of events, like the Brew Ha Ha, and their Thusday night salsa dancing when margueritas are available for purchase!
As Lindsay noted, we did a pre-write advertising this event. That's why it's important to read LAist every single day so you don't miss out.
Nice write-up and beer reviews, Greg!
@Lindsay - thanks for that. I obviously missed the original posting.
@Elise - I read LAist every single day but it's not impossible for some pieces to get buried or overlooked, especially any of the ganged event items.
