Ed Krieger/Boston Court
Last weekend, the noted Bruce Norris play, "The Pain and the Itch" opened at the Boston Court in Pasadena, earning the Critic's Pick nod from Back Stage. "This astutely designed and intelligently rendered production is a shared feather in the cap for two of L.A.'s most adventurous theater companies," wrote Les Spindle of the Furious Theatre Company's production.
The satire described: "A young daughter is in serious need of attention while her parents worry if the milk is organic. A ravenous creature may be prowling the upstairs bedrooms. And an average Thanksgiving for this family unravels into an exposé of disastrous choices and less-than-altruistic motives. The Pain and the Itch is a scathing comedy about the politics of class and race, a controversial examination of denial and its consequences."
And because we all need a laugh, even under dramatic circumstances, LAist is giving away a pair of tickets to this Saturday night's show and to the show next week Friday (you can also buy tickets here if you need them stat, use the code "LAIST" for $5 off). To enter, comment below with your favorite summer activity so far. We're partial to kayaking the Channel Islands, but we know you've had adventures you need to share with us. Was it a certain concert, a hike, a vacation?

Picnicking through every Hollywood/West Hollywood park.
We went hiking and geocaching around Friendship park in San Pedro. A beautiful view. We ended up off the trail at one point bushwhacking through shrubbery as tall as us and got super dirty. Great fun.
(btw - I can only go to the 8/7 show)
Eating my way through every food festival in Los Angeles. Looking forward to the Korean BBQ/Cook-Off next week!
Farmers Markets and subsequent afternoon BBQ's!
Not studying for the CA bar exam. Today was the last day of this wretched test and I can finally enjoy my summer.
Four-day horse camping trip through UCLA Extension. We rode all day searching (and finding!) herds of mustangs roaming the wilds around Bishop, CA. It was amazing.
OMG I have always wanted to do this! I hope to go one of these days...
Taking long walks at dusk, around Silver Lake Reservoir or Echo Park Lake, and then coming home to eat ice cream and play Yahtzee. Doesn't involve spending any money, and helps you cool down at the end of a hot day.
Hiking Fern Dell at sunrise.
3 words: the hollywood bowl.
Segway tour of California Adventure or sailing around Long Beach
driving to San Francisco and exercising my right to legally smoke pot for 3 days enjoying NorCal culture
Exploring a new neighborhood every weekend.
fav summer adventure was post HS graduation 94 - heading up to OR and WA for some coastal camping, across to Montana and Glacier Int'l Park, down through Big Sky and Yellowstone into the Southwest to Canyon de Chelly for the Anasazi cliff dwellings and wrapping up at an inter-tribal pow-wow in Gallup. Apart from separate blowout incidents on reservation highways this was the best summer adventure of my life. Glad that trucker stopped!
hiking in the Santa Monica mountains every morning including this morning. :)
the hollywood bowl.
I stated above that i can only go to the 8/7 show, i can also go this week since the contest was extended. Geocaching still the favorite summertime activity!
I've been walking every block of Hollywood. Literally every block. I'm doing all of the North South streets first, and then I'll move to East West next. I have discovered so much about the city that I didn't know before. Truly awesome way to spend the summer.
Berry picking in MN. I never dreamed that such sweet, gigantic blueberries could exist.
Walking to get Turkish coffee and mango ice cream from Mashti Malones...mmm, so good!
Fly fishing in New Hampshire. I didn't catch anything, but my friend lost his pole and his Blackberry.
