A new bus line between the Santa Clarita and the NoHo Metro Red/Orange Line stations will begin service next week. This is actually a pretty good idea for the fourth largest city in Los Angeles County as Metrolink trains run between the city and downtown, but only six days a week as opposed to the NoHo Express, which will run everyday. Additionally, this delivers commuters to a transit hub. Service will begin on August 1st with the first two weeks completely free of charge. Then if riders want to ride for the rest of the month for free, they can take an online survey to give feedback on the route. Wow, immediate feedback and evaluation so they can improve service right away? Imagine if all government agencies did that?

wow. that's awesome. :) FYI - the online survey link doesn't work.

I am very excited about this, yet, am bummed that I will still have to drive to NoHo for Hollywood Bowl / Ford shows...can we get park n ride love in the SCV??

Isn't this a bad thing? I heard that several bus routes between Santa Clarita and the northern SFV got axed and this route is their replacement.

"Santa Clarita Transit currently is proposing a service restructuring to take place on August 1, 2009. On that date, all existing bus service (Lines 8, 503, 504, 747, 793, and 798) between Santa Clarita and the northern San Fernando Valley will be cancelled. These services will be replaced with a single express bus service between Santa Clarita and North Hollywood, thus bypassing major destinations in the Sylmar, North Hills, Van Nuys, Sherman Oaks, and other communities."

Yeah. Sounds like a bad thing.

Fact check: The Metrolink Antelope Valley Line has service 7 days a week.

As far as the express bus service, it itself is not a bad service. But when it comes at the expense of several very successful lines that take people places they need to go in the northern SFV, this new service becomes a very bad thing.

The Transit Coalition has even more info about it on their under-construction campaign page:
