Certainly everyone has their favorite gastropub, maybe because it's their neighborhood hang or because they like the burger a lot, let's say from Father's Office. But let's face it, sometimes these gastropubs are out of control busy, packed and with a line out the door. That's why we love York on York (Blvd.) in Highland Park. How can you beat a chillax environment with $5 Craftsman beers and some of the best skin-on fries in the city on a weekday night? Not to mention the popular cheddar/harissa burgers (or the grilled tofu sandwich for veggies).
What's your favorite gastropub in Los Angeles? The Village Idiot? Laurel Tavern? Let us know in the comments section...

i fucking LOVE THIS PLACE. i go to the york pretty much every weekend. can't beat craftsman, you just can't. PLUS THEY HAVE CASK BEER. that's a very important thing to note.
Are the tofu sandwiches vegan?
i don't know...i've never actually eaten there. i usually grab food first at cinnamon vegetarian down the street.
i will find out about the tofu sandwiches...i would love to try them if they are safe.
I'll take the York over Laurel Tavern any day. Nice staff, decent chow and they even pour you an actual pint of beer (unlike those weasels at LT with their optical illusion glassware). York gets my vote!
the first time i went to the laurel tavern, i asked the waitress to pour the weird glass of beer into a proper pint glass, just to make sure it was the same size. it was. but i still like the normal glasses better.
Interesting. I asked the LT bartender to do that for me, too, and she flat out refused. I took that as an admission of guilt. Who knows? Maybe she was just a jerk bartender!
I've also been to both and prefer the York more since it is less crowded and I think the food is better at the York than Laurel Tavern.
I'm really digging BoHo at Sunset and Ivar lately. Cool decor, great beer list, and WAY better than Charcoal, which used to be in that location. It's now hard for me to decide between BoHo and Cafe Wa s - it usually comes down to whether I want beer or a cocktail.
I've been to a bunch of the new gastropubs, but I still love the good old Bowery. Still the best burger. I don't think a lot of the new places are pulling off the food side. Wish there were a couple more beers, though there are always good options. Haven't been back to Village Idiot or Boho after multiple mediocre experiences.
I love the York - it was definitely one of the plus sides to living in NeLA.
I like Bouzy Gastropub in Riviera Village (Redondo Beach). Great funky vibe, great patio, on block to the water. Killer food. Old Speckled Hen on tap, amongst other amazing brews and amazing, eclectic wine list. chezmelange.com
I'm sorry, did you just say Old Speckled Hen on tap?
*grabs his keys*
As soon as I find someone serving legit pints of Deuchars IPA, im not leaving. Ever.
I love this place! I go there for the food and next door to Johnny's for drinks.
