Galaxy forward Landon Donovan scored his 8th goal of the season at the 33rd minute as the blue-and-gold played to a draw against the Kansas City Wizars last night.

Kansas City had taken the lead at the 26th minute when forward Claudio Lopez picked up the ball at the center circle and sent a long arching shot towards the Galaxy goal. Galaxy 'keeper Donovan Ricketts was caught off his line and despite his desperate attempts to recover, the ball sailed just inches above his outstretched hand and into the goal. Ricketts would also suffer an injury in the course of the play and would be replaced by backup 'keeper Josh Saunders.

Although the scoreline was in favor of the home side, L.A. had been the more dominant team throughout the half, forcing Wizards 'keeper Kevin Hartman into action. The blue-and-gold continued to generate quality opportunities but were unable to take advantage either as a result of their own mistakes or intervention by Hartman. Galaxy midfielder David Beckham setup several opportunities in the first half, but it wasn't until the 33rd minute that Donovan was able to capitalize on one of them, bringing the teams level.

A combination of good defensive work and a bit of good luck for the L.A. side helped them get through a sloppy second half unscathed, even though the Wizards hit the cross bar on one chance. The home side pressed the issue throughout the second half, taking advantage of the Galaxy's downturn in form, but neither team was unable to break the deadlock before the final whistle.

The tie extends the Galaxy unbeaten streak to 5 games and helps solidify their third place standing on the Western Conference standings.

In other, non-MLS action, the U.S. Men's National Team will take on Mexico this afternoon in the Gold Cup final. Something interesting always happens when these two teams face each other and today should be no exception. Should the U.S. win, it will become the first 5-time winner of the Gold Cup in the tournament's history.
