- Test teachers or else... The US Education Secretary Arne Duncan is saying that California could lose millions in federal education dollars unless law makers change their policy of not using student test scores to measure teacher performance.
- Sad news at the LA Zoo. Asali, a Masai giraffe that has lived at the zoo for over 25 years died from possible complications after giving birth to a stillborn calf.
- The heat that has been leaning on us the past few days is expected to last about another week. Hang in there, keep cool and enjoy the sunshine!
- A body surfer was the victim of an unfortunate accident in Newport Beach when a huge wave caught him and slammed him into the rocks. The man was pulled from the rocks by lifeguards but were unable to revive him.
- Long Beach city leaders are hoping that the Army Corps of Engineers can help them with their breakwater problem. They believe that if the breakwater relic from WWII is removed, cleaner water, better waves and hopefully, more tourists, will return to Long Beach.
- LAStreetsBlog tells of a bill floating around the US Senate that would increase federal funding for Safe Routes to School programs. One thing that would help though is a change in local policy that bans biking to school.
