Box Office Review: Wild About Harry!

While it didn't manage to top the records of the deplorable Transformers 2: Racist CGI Moron Porn, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince did enjoy a fantastic weekend as it set a record for the franchise and easily won the weekend ($79.5M | $159.6M). Ice Age 3: More Ice Age placed second ($17.7M | $152M) while the aforementioned Transformers 2: Revenge of the Stupid gathered in a richly undeserved $13.7M ($363.8M). As expected, last week's champ -- the evil, hysterical Bruno -- crashed in its second weekend ($8.3M | $49.5M).

Summer surprises The Hangover ($8.3M | $235.8M) and The Proposal ($8.2M | $128M) finished a hair behind the gay Austrian documentary. After that it was the good but not great Public Enemies ($7.5M | $79.4M), the great Up ($3.1M | 279.5M), the mediocre My Sister's Keeper ($2.8M | $41.5M) and the awful I Love You, Beth Cooper ($2.6M | $10.2M). In limited release, the wonderfully funny and melancholy (500) Days of Summer had a monster debut ($31,037 per theater) and may be poised to be an indie breakout hit. See it today, people!
