A Recession Obsession is, 1) a meal so great that it stays in your mind long after digestion's end, and, 2) plays nice with your sensitive wallet. Is there a better place than Los Angeles to eat a wide variety of amazing food that so happens to be inexpensive? Probably not. We're as lucky as we are well fed. We last obsessed over KyoChon's Korean Fried Chicken, and fan favorite, Bay Cities Italian Deli. Today, we obsess...

Cowboys and Turbans is a fusion restaurant that doesn't wear many hats. Just two.

Fusing Mexican and Indian, this fast-enough food establishment has an impressive menu -- the likes of which I've not seen around our fare city. They boast Tandoori quesadilla, masala fries, chicken or tofu naanwiches -- all of which is probably delicious.

I wouldn't know how that stuff tastes. Thanks to the wretched economy, I've only indulged in their happy hour tacos -- $1 each, mid-day to 6 p.m.

A plate of Cowboys and Turbans chicken Tandoori tacos is a wonderful, wonderful thing. Spicy, savory and a great new taco-take. In this popular era of nu-taco fusion, these winners should endure their inevitable popularity valley. Of course these dollars beauties are LAist's latest Recession Obsession.

The King

Nestled under the El Rey's marquee is where you'll find this future-hotspot boasting "Street Food From India."

Should you happen by at an hour later than 6, n order of two Tandoori tacos are $5 (for chicken) or $6 for shrimp, fish, or tofu.I didn't find the fish to be anything special, and I've not tried the other two -- my chicken Tandoori taco obsession turns on tunnel-vision.

A KCRW membership will remove 10% off of your price (though, probably not for Happy Hours.)

The other items are all delicious too. I'm a fan of the fish quesadillas and the chicken naanwhich.

Let me know when they get a truck.

Wait, masala fries???? I was meaning to check this place out but I didn't know they had masala fries. Man. Talk about missing out.

I can't wait to try these tacos.
