Last night at around 9 p.m., LAPD Detective Susan Clemmer, 41, waked into the Santa Clarita sheriff's station at 23740 Magic Mountain Parkway in Valencia, "placed a box of personal items on the counter," then ended her life with a single gunshot, according to the LA Weekly.
Clemmer was "one of the first officers to testify during the Rodney King trial," having been in the ambulance with King following his March 3, 1991 beating. An LAPD officer since 1989, Clemmer has last been working in the force's gang and narcotics division.
Reports from last night describe Clemmer as "acting in a strange way," prior to her suicide in the station lobby.
LAist spoke with Rodney King on the 17th anniversary of the Los Angeles riots.

Unfortunately, police officers are at high risk for suicide (more are killed by suicide than by homicide, in fact). It isn't known if this reflects only access to firearms or also has to do with the stresses of the job or other factors.
Regardless, this is a tragic event no matter who is involved.
