Ruby's Shake Shack Opens on the Historic Malibu Pier

Last Sunday we urged you to Get Out and get yourself some free burgers, fries, and shakes from Ruby's Shake Shack at their Grand Opening party. Ruby's Shake Shack is indeed part of the Ruby's chain, but it's a chain with a lot of local history (the first one opened on the Balboa Pier in Newport Beach in 1982, styled like a classic 40s diner and named for the owner's mom).

Well, LAist Featured Photos pool contributor Michael Ngim (hinducow) did indeed head over to the historic and restored Malibu Pier to check out the festivities and the food, and sent us this report:

Not being a native to SoCal, I didn't know the history behind Ruby's. It is a cool story about a guy opening up a burger joint along the coast and using his mom as inspiration. They had a great Beach Boys cover band, the mayor of Malibu and Ruby herself in attendance. It was pretty cool. And the best part, FREE burgers. And these weren't the smaller, skimpy burgers you would think they would provide. These were huge plus they came with fries. And they were passing out small cups of their famous shakes. They had strawberry, chocolate, and oreo to name a few. The oreo was yummy.
He also sent us these shots of the celebration and the eats. Although the food isn't free everyday, Ruby's is now open for business on the Pier; head down at the very least to help support the Malibu Lagoon State Beach area--one of our state parks that very much needs us these days.
