Like to sing? An aspiring musician? Maybe a hack at both? Then Machine Project in Downtown LA has an alternative 4th option for you: “The Porch of July: Folk Americana Groupsing with an Open Porchestra” at 6 pm.

It’s an acoustic celebration and singalong of American folk music led by balladeers Daniel Brummel and Laura Steenberge. Song selections will run the gamut from subversive to spiritual and peace to protest (think: Guthrie, Seeger).

Everyone’s going to be encouraged to singalong (even badly), while real and amateur musicians are being asked to bring their acoustic instruments to provide accompaniment. (Check out the chords and songs here.) If you don’t have instruments at home, hand percussion instruments will be widely available.

The event’s free and open to the public, and refreshments will be provided. If it's a little too Mayberry for you, then here's to hoping they spike the lemonade.
