Walking on 3rd Street near Kings Road Monday night around 11:20 p.m., a 31-year-old woman was approached by a twenty-something black female who demanded the victim's purse threatening to shoot her if she did not comply. The suspect, described to be 20-25 years-old, 5 feet 5 inches tall, 145 pounds, wearing all dark clothing, then pulled the woman's purse off her arm and shot her in the upper torso before entering a vehicle, according to the LAPD.
The victim, whose condition is unknown, was able to flag down a witness driving by in a car. That witness then followed the suspect's car a couple blocks away to an apartment building at 100 S. Flores Street, where three suspects fled the car, running through the complex. The suspects were described only as two male Blacks with dark complexions and one light complected female Black.

This area is crawling with homeless and other shady characters after dark. I'm assuming it's the combination of the Goodwilll, vacant lots and hospitals. The police need to do a better job monitoring the area.
I live right here (at Kings and 1st) and I walk and bike in my neighborhood all the time, including weeknights, and have never felt the area to be "crawling with shady characters." There is one homeless guy I see all the time (black guy with huge shopping cart and white dog), but other than that most people on the sidewalks are walking their dogs, talking on their phones, or people getting off work at nearby restaurants. There are a few homeless people on Beverly but none of them are young black females, and seem more likely to urinate on themselves than pull a gun on a pedestrian.
To assume that the Goodwill on Beverly almost at Fairfax brings criminals to the area is absurd. It is probably a larger risk that people may be driving intoxicated after drinking at El Carmen or St. Nicks.
I am totally surprised at this crime, and I hope they find whomever is responsible. Also I hope the woman who was shot is in good condition.
Ummm, I'm pretty sure that a combination of mental illness, addiction and a collapsing economy have a lot more to do with L.A.'s burgeoning homeless population than Goodwill and vacant lots.
(Then again, I don't swallow the fox news mythical version of the world.)
Btw - one of the best ways to keep areas safe is to foster a strong sense of community, talk to neighbors, get involved etc.
pink shirt, the woman shot is a really good friend of mine. She is in great condition. Doctors are amazed at her progress. Thank God and thank you for your concern! They did find the shooter.
