City to Now Enforce Parking Rules Around Jackson Family Home in Encino

Since last week's death of Michael Jackson, crowds and media have flocked to various locations related to the superstar. In Hollywood, it was his Walk of Fame star; on the Westside, his Holmby Hills rental mansion; and in the Valley, his family home on Hayvenhurst Ave., just off Ventura Blvd.

In light of the mourning public, the city accommodated and "exercised significant discretion in not citing or towing vehicles." But today that changes because the street should really be used for local traffic and because it is one of the few ways to access this part of the Santa Monica Mountains and the neighborhoods on it, Hayvenhurst also acts as primary evacuation route and a designated thoroughfare for emergency services.

"Effective at 2:00 p.m., today, July 1, 2009, Hayvenhurst Avenue will be reopened between Ventura Boulevard and 4660 (Hayvenhurst Avenue)," the LAPD announced this afternoon. "All roadways, except where closed, will be subject to regular parking restrictions. There is no parking on Hayvenhurst Avenue between Ventura Boulevard and Libbit Avenue. This means that all vehicles, including media vehicles, will be subject to parking enforcement, up to and including citation and impound."

The police have also reported multiple car break-ins, including media vehicles, around the Jackson home.
