Downtown Wine Bar Threatens Blog with Lawsuit

mustbar.jpg Kat Odell just started her new gig as Editor of Eater LA a couple weeks ago, a nice change of pace for readers since Lesley Balla left the position in December. Then yesterday, she got some high exposure along with a downtown restaurant that became the focus of a post based on an anonymous tip. The Must Bar was using generic foods and charging high prices, the tipster asserted, adding possible health code violations. The LA Times' Daily Dish blog quickly jumped on to the story, interviewing the owners and finding that their thinking about legal action. But Ben Sheffner at Copyrights & Campaigns notes that the law is on Odell's side for the most part. For us, really, all this does is make us want to go support and check out The Must at least once to decide for ourselves. Time for a drink?

does must serve any vegan food? maybe i can bring my scientific testing equipment to make sure it's legit...!

They have a vegan fluffernutter dessert sandwich with chocolate ganache. And tomato soup and a few other things.

I saw this on LA Eater yesterday and it really upset me. I've been to The Must a number of times and it's always been great. And I most definitely plan on going back many more times.

I mean...come on people. It's hard enough to run a restaurant in economic yucky times without web blogs like this throwing out unsubstantiated accusations that threaten to hurt their business. Boo on LA Eater.

Just popped over to take a look and, man! Those comments were oppressive! A lot of people took that posting waaay to personally. Troll much?

In l.a., if a place rocks, word of mouth always trumps questionable bloggery.

That's really too bad. I coincidentally went there last night before having even read this and was really pleased with everything. The service was amazing and I also had a chance to talk to Coly, an owner, and Greg, the head chef, who were both super nice and told me that they buy produce at the Pershing Square farmers market on Wednesdays and the Fig market on Thursdays...and the PORT FLOATS are amazing (yeah, root beer floats for adults) . Assuming the health code violations are untrue, I will certainly be going back...actually I'll probably go back regardless because they have AVERY and FLYING DOG, the best Colorado beers.
