Box Office Review: Triple Sub-mediocrity Reigns!

To no one's surprise -- and to the great embarrassment of all Americans with a still-attached brain stem -- Transformers: Revenge of the Racist Robots That Suck Beyond Belief clobbered more deserving films at the box-office this weekend to the tune of $112M ($201.2M). Last week's champ -- the, in retrospect, ceaselessly brilliant -- The Proposal raked in an additional $18.4M ($69M) to top powerhouse The Hangover ($17.2M/$183.2M). After that it was the reliable Up ($13M/$250.2M) and newcomer My Sister's Keeper ($12M).

Year One collapsed in its second weekend ($5.8M/$32.2M) but still managed to edge The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 ($5.4M/$53.4M). The reliable Star Trek held onto 8th place ($3.6M/$246.2M), just ahead of Night at the Museum 2: Much Better Than Transformers ($3.5M/$163.2M) and a surging Away We Go ($1.6M/$4M). The limited release crowd was dominated by the fantastic Hurt Locker ($36,000 per theater). Neither Cheri ($5368 per), The Stoning of Soraya M. ($4333) nor Quiet Chaos ($3670) were nearly as successful.
