Today, the Legislature is expected to vote to close the State's $24 billion budget deficit with measures that include taking $57 million in gas tax money from the City of Los Angeles. If that were to happen, Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa says the city could lose 800 street maintenance positions through those revenues. Yes, street maintenance, one of the most complained about aspects of Los Angeles.
Although the Democratic plan is expected to reduce $23.2 billion of the deficit, about $7.2 billion are said to be gimmicky bookkeeping maneuvers that "are one-time fixes, are sure to be challenged in court or are grounded in rosy assumptions that the Legislature's own fiscal advisors say are unlikely to materialize," finds the LA Times.

i think if the state would let some of the accountants working at studios deal with this deficit, the issue would be solved pronto. those guys work some serious, fiscal magic...
There definitely are some who can work magic, but there are plenty who work magic by cheating background: not paying overtime, not feeding lunch, not paying hazards. Have you ever worked a music video set? Wow, amazingly horrible sub-industry.
Legalize pot, tax it, raise the gas tax a penny, budget problem solved, no program cuts...
wake up people.
the banking cheats took the money, ran, and then got a *bonus* from the us taxpayers for looting the national treasury. why does noone pipe up about this?
oh yeah, because unfair and imbalanced says it's cuz the working class isn't *trying* hard enough.
