Lakers Victory Parade and Rally. And that was how a victory parade should be. With the exception of a few knuckleheads outside the Coliseum, everyone was filled with joy cheering the Lakers. For all the detractors who said Los Angeles didn't deserve a parade after the actions of certain shiteaters Sunday night, tell me the thousands of people along the 2.2 miles of Figueroa Street between the Staples Center and the Coliseum and the 80,000 in the Coliseum itself didn't want some diversion from everyday struggles. Everything about this celebration was done exquisitely and served as a great dress rehearsal for November's parade. One last thing. For all you shitheads complaining about the cost burden of the city, what is $1 million more to a $500 million shortfall?
The Dodgers couldn't come back against the A's, and the Angels swept the Giants.
Tonight's Action
Oakland A's at LA Dodgers. Vin Mazzaro vs. Randy Wolf. 7:10 pm FS Prime Ticket, AM 790 KABC.

$1 million would pay the salaries of multiple teachers who are getting fired.
Since when does LAist call its readers "shitheads"?
Or, that money could be given to businesses which suffered damage from the rioting and looting after the winning game.
Insurance covers that. Being in a family that owned businesses during the LA Riots one of which was burned down, I can sympathize with them. But I think all the sanctimonious words that have been tossed around since Sunday has been completely absurd and way off base.
You're assuming they have insurance. And what happens after you make a claim, your premiums go down right?
Oh, they don't? So you can't say anything to the long-term cost that insurance claim could create?
But hey, some dudes who throw a ball around, and just so happen to do so in your backyard won at a game. Yay. Pat yourself on the back for helping out in your living room.
What's absurd is the fact that private donors produced hundreds of millions of dollars for a privately-owned sports team's parade when LAUSD schools can't even afford to keep janitorial staff.
And I don't see what's so far off-base about suggesting that would be a better use of the money. The only argument I hear in favor is "Let the people have their fun!" And to that, I say that people would have a lot more fun if they weren't losing their jobs and suffering the repercussions of their children's educations being irrevocably damaged. But I guess when it's long-term damage, it's hard to realize how bad it really is.
The arguments are only sanctimonious if you think that public education is not something more valuable than a privately-owned sports team's success. Do you think that?
You're standing by the "shitheads" line, huh?
I should have said "hundreds of thousands". Sorry.
Thanks Jimmy Bramlett!! Thanks for being openly happy about the Lakers parade, as so many of us were.
Are the parade-haters here graduates of LAUSD? If not, maybe they are unaware of how complicated dealing with its budget crisis is, and that trying to yoke the two things together—Laker celebration and LAUSD shortfall—is naive and kind of silly.
And I have to say this: I believe that the inspiration and pride that the Lakers provide for basketball-loving LA kids, either LAUSD or not—is worth something.
What about the kids that love math and not basketball? Or the kids that love football, but not basketball?
I guess they don't matter. But maybe I'm just being "naive and kind of silly." About a game. Played by grown men. That do whatever they can to avoid paying taxes in any situation.
But hey, I guess "inspiration" is priceless. Especially when your heroes are succeeding in arenas that have nothing to do with education.
A lot of you guys are amazing. Dont hate on people who want to celebrate a long awaited victory. Teachers have been getting screwed in this city for YEARS and very few stood up and tried to make a difference. When championships were won here before there was nothing but praise and great words for people celebrating. But now that the shit has finally hit the fan with the city and state budget and people are losing jobs, all of a sudden its a bad thing to be happy for your team winning. Stop directing your anger at a shitty situation toward people who have nothing to do with it. Pardon us for being happy about something in the city for once. Wow... can't wait for when the Dodgers finish the season. We might have protesters and haters pissed off at Dodger fans too.
