Yes, that's right...there were so many of us who wanted to go to Erotica L.A. this year that to break it up a bit, I was given the dubious honor of covering it "from a woman's point of view." I'm not sure what that means, exactly - should I be feigning offense over the plethora of tits and ass cheeks hanging out of boy shorts? Because I think it would have been kind of lame of me to go with the sole intent of being offended. After all, the shit is called "Erotica L.A." - I must own up to knowing what I was getting myself into (and...well, being excited about it). Or perhaps my vagina itself should be writing this? I think my vagina felt good about the whole event...hang on, I'll ask it....
Anyway, I gave it some thought, and here's what I came up with. Erotica L.A. from a woman's point of view looks...well, pretty much the same as it does from a man's, but with a few exceptions. For instance, I understand how it feels to walk around with people staring at your tits in a way that I'm guessing most men don't (although that may have to do with some things in my sordid past, ahem...). Also, I was the only one of the LAist group who got a warning (thank you) from one of our porn veterans not to wear a skirt, lest I be the unwitting victim of an upskirt photograph (because apparently a woman's willingness to be photographed, of which there was no shortage, just takes all the fun out of it for some people). But to really demonstrate the "female point of view" at the event that I believe to be uniquely, well, female, I've gathered a small collection of photos below. I hope you enjoy...

I loooove those pics.
I was next door at The THC Expo. There was at least as much eye candy over there. One young lady was wearing little but body paint.
BTW, there was TONS of cross pollination in the smoking area for obvious reasons. Good time had by all. Not a bad match up for two groups at the convention center.
whoah love this but you really need to add a HUGE NSFW banner to the front page. I clicked on the read more and saw giant ass cheeks which, thankfully, my boss sitting behind me didn't notice.
(yes, I know it's about Erotic LA but THINK ABOUT THE LAZY INTERNET READERS!!!
But seriously, tiny NSFW note on the front page would be nice to do.
good call :)
I went on Saturday and to be honest... it was kind of sad and creepy. A whole lot of the kind of guys who cat call to you on the street, but they were having their pictures taken with pron stars and models, who had to suck up to them so they would buy their videos. I've had better experiences just going to Hustler Hollywood or the Pleasure Chest.
msmerymac, usually i'm on the same page as you but i have to say it really bothers me when people call events like this "sad and [or] creepy." who is it sad and creepy for? the women who are there to do their job, and getting paid (probably very well) for it? it's also kind of one-sided to say they were "sucking up." if anything, i'd say it was the fans sucking up to them. i thought the atmosphere was lighthearted and fun - if you thought it was sad and creepy, maybe that's a reflection of a problem that you have with the scene, rather than the scene itself.
Trust me, I'm no prude. I wouldn't be at Erotica if I wasn't into it. I had a problem with the crowd being creepy more so than the women. The models and actresses were a lot of fun and looked great. I just found it disappointing. Like it was some half-assed (pardon the pun) attempt to sell porn, rather than something really spectacular. Like I said, there are adult stores that have less "selection" perhaps than the show, but they feel more welcoming and comfortable. At least to me. My boyfriend actually felt the same way, so I don't think I can blame it exclusively on being a woman. But most of the men at the show reminded me of the guys who see me on the street and shout, "Hey beautiful! Hey, where you goin'?"
Oh, and I'm not against the girls doing their jobs or choosing a career in the sex industry. At all. But on Saturday I was glad I wasn't one of them. (Of course, people I know who have worked in porn or strip clubs say you kind of get desensitized to it, and some end up thinking all guys are creeps - but that's another topic.)
A friend mentioned that her friend went to Erotica last year and labeled it as "disappointing." Perhaps that's more of how I felt. Like I thought it could be better. Especially since I've been to amazing events at the convention center, like the LA Auto Show.
Good girl for photographing the lookers, as well as the lookies! I probably would have ended up doing the same thing.
