Classical Pick of the Week: Hollywood Bowl Opens (Kind of)!

Mahler's 5th symphony is one of the many pieces you can see and hear this summer at the Hollywood Bowl. This recording is performed by the Lucerne Festival Orchestra under Claudio Abbado.

The month of June doesn't have much to offer when it comes to classical music, at least until the Hollywood Bowl season starts (June 19th). Check out the calendar and start planning your summer now! Most of the classical-related events don't start until July, so start early to get some good seats! Andre Rieu comes to LA this week, and although he doesn't appeal to most classical music listeners, he packs the house like few can (which is why he is playing at the Nokia Theatre). This is generally geared towards older and younger folks, and casual fans. In other (exciting) news, the Guild Opera celebrates its 60th year with several acclaimed opera stars to put on a concert at the old Autry Museum. More information can be found here.
