Conan Shows the World the Lovely LA River

Conan is having fun exploring Los Angeles so he went canoeing in the LA River. "Let's never do that again," he said after humorously trying it near the 6th Street Bridge.

It's actually doable, in a lot of parts at least. We spent three days last summer following a group of kayakers from start to finish.

(Thanks for the tip, torrmoz!)

They should have dubbed Conan doing the tune from Deliverance during the camp out scene.

Ya know, Conan's from Boston, and Boston Harbor used to be the environmental lauging stock of the nation. Maybe he will bring some attention to the plight of the LA River now!

I'm not sure how anyone can call a concrete encased waterway a river. I know, I know...it started out as a river, but thanks to a disaster of a flood and the Army Corps of Engineers I think it could now be called the Los Angeles Storm Drain.

Yeah, I've got to agree with BingosDingo. It's really the most hideous excuse of a river I've ever seen, mostly because of the concrete walls. I'd love to see the LA Storm Drain restored to something resembling a real river.

Unfortunately, I don't think we have the water to spare - which is part of the reason the "river" looks like that in the first place.

I can't believe they traveled underneath the bridge on Cesar Chavez. If any of you walked on that bridge, the breeze has a foul smell.

There's plenty of beauty on the river, especially in the Glendale Narrows. See --

or Cornerstone Theater Co's current riverside production "Touch The Water" (www.CornerstoneTheater.org)

i still can't get over the whole mushroom kingdom set. i find myself staring at the background during monologues.

Funny. Welcome back to LA Conan :)

It's prettier in other less industrial sections. Tell ya what though, it isn't as scary as the East River (not as many body parts floating around) and it's isn't as toxic as the Gowanus Canal in Brooklyn(which might become a superfund site). Or on fire like other city waterways at times...

Aren't those the bridges that are under threat of demolition?

Metrolink had a cameo. I can't wait until Conan delivers some antics on our only subway.

I can't believe Andy actually got in the river. I'm surprised he didn't turn neon green!!!!
