Susan Atkins Parole Hearing Postponed

If your are sentenced to "Life" in prison, that means until you are dead. Lucky for you, you only have less than a year to go.............got to look at the positive things (for everyone)

Her victims can't move, eat or speak either anymore. She deserves to rot in prison until she can rot in Hell.

Give me a break. She's been in prison longer than any other inmate?!? They are all still in prison, hell, Charles Manson didn't even kill anyone and he is still in there. And he should, be all of them should rot in prison. Maybe they will send her to live with you and your family, see how confident you are then that she can't move.

If California would re-enstate the death penalty, it would not have worry about parole hearings for these monsters. Quite frankly, the Manson family should all have been put to death a long time ago and quit wasting tax money to feed and house them. Prison life is better than that ranch.

Susan Atkins showed no mercy - WHY SHOULD SHE GET ANY. She should die in prison - she already got 37 years more of life than her victims. Too bad she doesn't have to die the way she killed! What next - let Manson out cause he's old!

Hey, mr t, as Atkins said to Sharon Tate as her and Watkins were killing her, "Woman, I have no mercy for you." And besides, how can you compare stealing to taking a person's life and the life of their unborn child. There is no comparison.

I read Vincent Bugliosi's "Helter Skelter" over 20 years ago, and it gave me nightmares. When I hear that this evil, horrible, cold-hearted, ugly, crazy B@#%H wants mercy because she's dying of cancer ... SO F&*@#%G WHAT!!! Her family wants her to live out the rest of her days surrounded in peace, comfort and love ... BIG F#@%$#G DEAL!!! I am certain that Sharon Tate's mother would have loved for her daughter and unborn grandchild (that the now poor helpless "Sadie Mae Glutz", who cannot move, by the way, slaughtered without one ounce of mercy in her heart) to be surrounded by love, joy and comfort from her family as well. So, California, when you start deciding who deserves MERCY, remember that a defenseless, 8-month pregnant woman was mutilated to death by this psycho maniac. Don't forget that she also had a hand in the vicious assaults on and/or deaths of Tate's friends Abigail Folger, Voytek Frykowski, Jay Sebring, and an 18-year old young man, Steven Parent, who was visiting the Tate's caretaker at the time. I apologize if I have spelled any names incorrectly, but I am just disgusted and outraged that there are people who actually believe that this animal deserves an ounce of mercy. She can rest nicely in prison, where I am certain that she does not have to work or exert herself in any way. At least her last moments of life will not be spent in horror & unbelievable agony, which is the verdict that she imposed on Tate & her friends that night on Cielo drive.

If she is such a "born-again" Christian woman like she claims, she should stay where she is & die in prison. She did not give Sharon Tate, her unborn baby & the rest of their victims any "compassion" so why should any of the Manson "family" members get paroled? I've been reading all the posts... Man this is a volatile topic. Really, we have to take Scripture out of it because while we still are still a "christian nation" and our foundings are in Judeo-Christian principles, our laws are made and enforced apart from them. The law is the law. What this woman did, with those Manson family followers, all those years ago, broke the law, and in a heinous way. I've only heard stories, watched TV reports and documentaries. I wasn't alive when the crimes occured. But it was horrific, and if I'm not mistaken, it was not the only incident of murder. Were there not more than one night when these followers went on a killing spree? No matter... the law should stay the law "Life sentence" - apart from any "compassion" situation. Otherwise, there will be copy cat situations and this will set precedence for future murderers or rapists, etc. to be releases prematurely. Definitely, she should stay in jail because it's the right thing to do...it's the law. And, the cost to CA has nothing to do with it. Her spouse or family could try to get state aid for her medical bills, etc. CA is going to pay no matter where she resides.
Yes, those who were brutally and viciously murdered have had not opportunity to appeal or debate the issue.

For everyone asking for compassion on Atkins, and for us to remember that GOD is our judge, I believe you are right. GOD is our judge, and I would've joined in the chorus for mercy; except for one thing. She already recieved compassion.

When her sentence was commuted to life from bieng on death row due to the US statute, she was given a huge break of mercy. I understand that she is dying of cancer, and I pray for her health; however the families of her victims will never be able to confort their loved ones at all. They died alone. At least Ms Atkins doesnt have that fate, though prison is pretty darn close. She deserves to stay in prison. She is lucky that she didnt get worse.

I strongly believe that she should be left in prison. She commited the crime let her do the time. If she didn't want to die in prison she should have stayed away and not done the things she has done. To many innocent people died for what? Some sick twisted people to have fun and go on a killing spree. I mean damn what is this world comming to? People kill people and get out of jail or prison. Hell some even walk away with a slap on the wrist.... The justice system is F%$#*D... I wish the justice system in Tennessee was that of California's at least the people who committ murders there go to prison for 25 years to life. I know of 4 murder cases in Tennessee right now, 3 which have gone to trial already and one that is still pending. The 3 that have gone to trial already have got nothing more than a slap on the wrist. So the families that got justice in these murders good for you. I wish I could see that here in Tennessee. So let her do her time all of it. If she dies there that is her. She did the crime let here do the time. She doesn't deserve to be sent home to die comfortably, let here suffer like those she murdered... And one last thing she should really rot in HELL for taking the life of an unborn child.

There is not many times I can say that I have a comment to make but today I have one. I believe we all do bad things in our lives but I can say I've never wanted to kill someone. I know we have a forgiving God but we pay for our sins wether were caught or not. I believe the horrific nature of the crime that she committed she should stay in prison. We are all forgiven for our sins but we still answer for those sins when we stand before God. I think Susan should stay in prison and they should make concessions for her family to visit her there, why should she get a compassionate release. Susan had no compassion for the people she murdered and admitted so in public. I believe that if you are given a sentence of life you should serve it no matter what. If we release her that will set a presendence that any person serving a life sentence can apply for a compassionate release. There are someone that should just be locked up and never be free and she happens to be one.

She should of had the death penalty years ago. Why do the taxes of this state go to keeping convicted murderers alive? They should get quick appeals and then then the injection. Then we wouldn't have to worry about elderly people, looking for sympathy, who use to kill people for the joy of it! Let's clean up death row!!

It makes me sad and embarrassed to be a part of this human race when I see such pure "excitement" and "enjoyment" out of seeing people suffer. The "Manson Family" certainly did this when they brought these inocennt people's lives to such a violent/bizarre death. However, TODAY many of YOU who post here say things like "Shoot her in the ass with a .22 and let her rot"...."I hope she suffers/is in alot of pain". Etc..etc... Death penalty! ETc...etc.. Wow! Are we truly any better than THEY were when WE seem to get so much enjoyment/pleasure from pain, suffering and death. Many of us seem to CELEBRATE it! I remember when Ted Bundy was murdered in "Old Sparky", Florida's electric chair.....people were outside the prison WITH THEIR KIDS, holding up frying pans yelling "Burn Bundy, Burn!" "Cook him!" etc... Why isn't life in prison enough? Why all the anger in the name of justice? Lock em up and throw away the key.......but this 60 year old woman has been given ONE year to live (by a Doctor)....why not leave her be, in peace? I close in asking one more time.....When "WE" enjoy and celebrate violence/pain/death/murder...are we really any better than those we are condemning? Think about it.

Of course let her out!!! BUT, here are the stipulations because I think she can help so many people! She should be released the same way China releases their organ donor's that are in prison. Allow me to clarify! In China every life prisoner is a "volunteer" donor of organs. Need a heart? Thanks lady! Oh, this child needs a liver? Thank you sir, you are so kind! I think that Susan has many organs she doesn't need and should be released! One piece at a time :) After all, once convicted and all appeals exhausted she is no longer a person with rights, but an eating piece of meat. Sorry folks, I didn't have the luxury of reading about this one. I lived through it, up front and personal, every day! And as far as the Bible stuff goes....This is not a religious argument and as a good Jew I am not worried if a Christian world judges me as unworthy (gee, wasn't Jesus the same religion as me?). Hmmmm, less judging and more justice in this particular case (and this punishment is very clearly spelled out as far as scriptures go. This is not a 60 year old woman, not a man, not a person of significance. This is a convicted killer of human life. That is an all encompassing statement. And no our country as previously stated was not founded on "In G-d we Trust." It is a statement that we made and continue to make when we were founded on freedom and laws by and for the people (like the law of putting to death those that kill other people)! I'm done now.

Some say stop using Bible references and scriptures to what this woman has done, other's say who cares what the Bible says. WOW, I sure don't want to be in your shoes on judgement day! Have we become so bitter and judgemental towards man kind that we won't stop to really think about the consequences of our own thoughts and saying? I had the opportunity to meet Susan, she was a very unhappy person,tormented and always in agony and pain, was she sorry that she committed this crime, yes she was. Sharon was brainwashed, & drugged out of her mind at that time. In her soberness, she was then a very smart,articulate and kind woman. No one forced her to take drugs but because of her personal pain and dilemma's she found a community that she thought would except her for being exactly like she thought she was. At the age of 21 and being drugged out, crazy from being manipulated by a man such as Charles Mason with a mental disease who then could have believed that a person was capable of doing what she and others did. Some of you have family members who have murdered others in the mind and they are just the walking dead and you embrace them with love and kindness because you don't want others to know to the extinct of their behavior. The mind is a terrible thing to waste, and Sharon's mind was taken from her at an early age of her life. Maybe she did ask God to forgive her for doing what she did. She thought like so many others today think, that God couldn't love a person like her. Mental illness is so insensitive, satanic and calculating how many have died because of it? Now as for us,those who are in the right minds, we, should hate the crime, but we should never hate the person who commit these kinds of crimes. Will we reap what we sow, of course we will! As for the families of the victims they will have to reckon with God because of their hearts. Maybe you don't believe in the Judgement, some of us do, weather this woman dies in prison or at home with family it doesn't matter. She's still going to die. Remember this, today is here, maybe you haven't killed someone, but what about your tomorrows? Is it promised that it won't happen to you? Accident's happen every day, mostly unintentional but sometimes people won't see it that way. Someone will want you to rot in hell too. Life in prison means life in prison. Does not mean you get out when you are almost dead. Some crimes cannot be forgiven and the random murder of a rank stranger for murder's sake is unforgivable. She had a choice when she took 2 lives, I don't care how much acid she dropped. "Don't do the crime if you can't do the time".

I agree that it costs the state more money to house Susan Atkins than it would to set her free, but I think that there is more to the picture than that. If the death penalty is not an option in cases of recreational homicide, then society needs to send the message that when you coldy kill your fellow citizens, you must expect to lose your freedom FOREVER. Not for many years. Not until people get old, die, move away or have faded memories. FOREVER. Letting someone walk out of prison after having done something like this sends the wrong message. If making her die in prison makes even one person think twice before murdering someone, then that by itself makes it worth it, even with the financial expense.

Susan Atkins has had enought time to come to terms with the horror she has caused in the past. I believe she can get forgivness from God as we all can. She should accept her sentence and be a model prisioner who doesn't ask for any pardon. I believe it would be noble for any such criminal to recommend they die in prison and help any future criminals to see a person admit to their guilt this way. Too many criminals end up in prison and never learn to owe up to evil and misdeeds. Why don't prisioners stop asking for mercy and start telling everyone they belong where they are.

Let me also say to those who say that we should forgive her for the murders she and her friends commited, you have NO IDEA HOW WE FEEL as the families of the victims. You say that God will judge us for not forgiving, well when was the last time you read your Bible? Does it not say in the Ten Commandments " Thou Shalt Not Kill". well let me say this, those that commit muredr will have to answer to God and He will not forgive or forget what they have done. Susan Atkins participated in not just the Tate murders, but two others known for sure, just a few days before the Tate murders. These murders, the Tate and other two, were committed because Roman Polanski bought the house from a record producer who would not help Manson get a contract. They murdered these people even after they knew they had the wrong people. There is no excuse or reasoning for what they did.

Stop bringing the bible and god into it? It looks to me that god is voicing his opinion right now. Cancer and one leg? Maybe if she would have shown some responsibility for her brutal actions we as a society wouldnt be judging her as harshly. Then again maybe not. And I agree, as a reborn Christian she should accept her punishment and stop begging for something she has no right to. As a matter of fact, she gave up all her rights as a human that bloody night.

It's not a matter of fogiveness. She committed a crime and must serve out her sentence. The Bible says if we are not willing to forgive than we will not be forgiven. It doesn's say we do not punish. Sometimes that means the death sentence and sometimes it means a slap on the wrist. While I believe she should spend the rest of her life behind bars, I also question the even-handedness of our judicial system. Just watch the news and see how many murderers and molesters we release only to offend again. What's wrong with us?

Susan Atkins has received her compassionate reprieve when her death sentence was commuted to life in prison. She participated in two of most heinous crimes of our lifetime – The Tate and LaBianca Murders. Ms. Atkins showed no mercy or compassion to Sharon Tate when she begged for her life and that of her unborn child or that of the other victims who were butchered: Abigail Folger, Jay Sebring, Steven Parent, Voytek Frykowski, Rosemary and Leo LaBianca. Perhaps she should be reminded of the words she spoke and the actions she carried out without remorse.

How do you think the families of victims feel? Their loved ones have been dead and buried for the last 40 years. Their loved ones dreams, goals, aspirations and futures were all destroyed on those horrific nights. They did not get to live out the rest of their lives or die in peace as Ms. Atkins is requesting.

If Ms. Atkins has become a good Christian as she states then she can seek her forgiveness from her victims and their families and God for breaking his laws as well as our nation’s laws. Only her death will end her sentence and set her free.

She doesn't deserve a chance for parole for the crimes she committed. she deserves to finish her life sentence till her death consumes her. She should face her maker to the end. She deserves Hell to be her home. Don't let this sorry ass murderer have a chance of freedom for her victims did not get those chances.

OK, I was alive at the time and it was a bad, bad crime, she should rot in jail. My question is, who's this husband-lawyer and what's his stake in this? The book rights. She's not allowed to profit from the crime but he sure can. I always like to follow the money. Did they get to honeymoon on San Fran bay on the CA tax payers?

I agree that this Atkins woman should not be let out, but I wonder what's in it for her husband? A book deal perhaps? How obscene!

Only because the state allowed her to live so long are we even thinking about this criminal.I've read most comments posted and regardless of the outrage I still only hope for two outcomes to take place.First I wish she and her husband would say she belongs in prison untill her final hour.The second wish would be for her to really feel and say she was sorry for her criminal past and how it hurt so many people and for God to help them, and to never talk or write again,out of respect.

I don't support parole for Susan Atkins but reading the violence and bloodlust expressed in some of the responses here is sad, even nauseating. It also helps explain why our country is one of the most violent of western democracies and why we have 5% of the world's population, yet 25% of the world's incarcerated people.

Her "lawyer husband" didn't think she was going to live more than a month or so last year when they first wanted to let her out. She was receiving a million dollars worth of FREE hospital care before they threw her ass back in the pen. She doesn't deserve to be released from prison. As for the parole board members who are unavailable~ I hope you are all on a relaxing, peaceful vacation somewhere.. Maybe in September you can extend those vacations for another 3-6 mos.. ENJOY!

Greetings my fellow protestors of Susan Atkins'es unnecesary upcoming parole hearing. Couple of things I want to make clear: First, thanks for the respondants who were very supportive of my comments from comment number #69. I appreciate that. Secondly, I gladly realize and understand that since this is America where we have the freedom to exercise our Free Speech provided by the First Amendment, we are allowed to verbalize our thoughts. Anyways, to the folks who favor Atkins'es parole hearing because of her debilitating condition: Folks, that's NOT the point. Like I previously stated, Atkins is a mass-murderer who not only voluntarily committed, but boasted, and was convicted of at least eight murders and possibly more. When you do the math, even though she's been incarcerated for 40 years, that's equivalent to approxiamately 5 years per murder, which is ridiculous! Next, just think of the horror and terror that the Manson Family inflicted on Southern California 40 summers ago during that magical summer of '69. Three weeks after the Moon Landing on July 20, and a week before Woodstock and Hurricane Camille. I say Atkins should've been executed back on Monday, March 29, 1971 when she and her other three colleagues(Manson, Krenwinkel and Van Houten) were all sentenced to death by their jury at their LA trial. Believe me, that would've saved Californians 38 years of hard-earning tax-paying dollars to house that scumbag slimeball. Finally, when Atkins is executed, I just know that Debbie Tate will say, "I think it's such a shame that it's taken this long(40+years) for her to leave this earth! I just know that Atkins will be reunited with her former colleagues Manson, Beausoliel, Watson, Krenwinkel and Van Houten in hell because that's where all six of them belong! This upcoming Sunday and Monday will mark the 40th anniversary of the murders. I will gladly say a prayer for Sharon, Jay, Abigail, Voytek, Steven, and the LaBiancas and I urge that most of you participate from wherever you're from to do the same.
