To a rousing success, last night the 2nd Annual Taste of Avalon kicked off the Flying Fish Festival for the weekend. Unlike the Taste of Chicago where restaurants set up booths in one central location, Avalon's taste has you going from restaurant to restaurant. And it works because the small city's downtown is about five blocks long, which makes the event a great way to experience the city.
After buying a rating card for $2, you go around to each of the restaurants and for $1 or less--sometimes free--you get food and drink samples. It was soon discovered this event did a good job liquoring you up one dollar at a time, something that will help grow this event's popularity over the years with tourists looking to forget their daily routines of mainland life.
The Taste is a good time, especially with groups of friends traveling together and getting full along the way. We recommend penciling this event in for 2010 and we'll be sure to inform you when it's coming

You are a madman. Especially for this insane turnaround time.
And those are some amazing photos Tom!!! I bet you were so excited to have caught that saute mid-air! I am so jealous...next year for sure.
Delicious!
Awesome.
Too bad all the restaurants in Avalon are mediocre at best. We would spend a lot more time there if that wasn't the case. The new hiking trail will pull is to Catalina at least once this year though.
Actually I should say, the candy/ice cream shop is good as is the bloody mary's at that one bar in the shopping plaza with the view of the harbor
