Kauzbots: Robots Raise Money for Worthy Causes

Kalvin-Kauzbot.jpg

Last month at Unique LA, we met David Trotter from Kauzbots. These fabric robots are 18 inches tall, super cute, and raise money for organizations around the world. We took home Kalvin the leader of the "Kauzbot Krew". Buying Kalvin meant that 10% of the purchase price went to Hearts of Gold an organization with a mission to enhance the lives of New York City's homeless mothers and children.

There are nine other Kauzbots in Kalvin's entourage. Karson is red and raises money for AIDS Walk . Kruz is blue and rasies money for Lifewater, an organization that helps developing countries gain safe drinking water and sanitation.

Yeah I don't know, still seems like a wannabe big business hiding behind the guise of "goodwill"

So Really, only 10%? What would happen if you were to not buy the over priced (made in china) "robot" and instead take 100% of that money you would spend and DONATE directly to the cause? How much better would that be. Then you wouldn't have to worry about another clunky trinket you will eventually garage sale for $.25

Angelo-
I love your heart for these wonderful causes, and that's exactly why KAUZBOTS was started. I met with David and Keith a couple months ago, and I was excited to join the effort as the National Sales Director bringing over 20 years of experience to the Team. The reality is that most people are going to purchase plush toys for themselves, their children, or as a gift. If an additional value can be added to the product(ie., benefiting a cause), we believe that this benefits both the non-profit(receiving financial investment) and the consumer(by contributing to the cause). And, of course, KAUZBOTS, benefits financially allowing us to continue operating and growing the business.

One of the greatest benefits of KAUZBOTS is the exposure that the toy allows non-profits to gain through a retail and internet presence. Not only are we excited about the finacial benefit they receive, but the fresh eyes that are introduced to the organization are a wonderful opportunity in the short run. KAUZBOTS are a great way to teach children and adults about the importance of new causes that they may not be aware of.

In terms of the 10% donation, this is the standard allocation that most reputable cause-related products donate to a non-profit. Although it may not sound much in your eyes, it is actually 40% of our profit on the product. Combining the exposure of the non-profit to new individuals who want to make an impact with the educational benefit to children, we believe KAUZBOTS are going to make a tremendous impact in the world. Not only do we want to use KAUZBOTS to raise money and awareness, but we want people to get connected directly to new non-profit organizations so consumers can invest in them directly.

I told my kids they could pick out something at Unique LA this year. They both loved Kauzbots. So for us this purchase was a win win - the girls brought home a cute toy and learned more about how to help others. We already spend a lot of time volunteering here in LA. We raise money for causes we care about. After buying a Kauzbot, we looked at the website to learn more about the organization that was connected to their new friend Kalvin. Kids can learn about community service in many different ways, even if occasionally it means buying them a tangible reminder of how to 'give back'.
