Samba Brazilian Steakhouse to Replace Cafe Tu Tu Tango

cafetututango_steakhouse.JPG Universal City's Cafe Tu Tu Tango was shuttered back in December, yet is surviving in Orange County and... Orange County, Florida (okay, specifically Orlando). Cruising the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control's website, an LAist tipster found that Samba Brazilian Steakhouse is taking the cafe's place. Unclear if they are connected, there's a restaurant with the same name at the Mirage in Vegas and a similarly themed one in Redondo, too. But inquiring minds wonder, what will they do with those old tutus?!

I went to TuTu once, and that was too many times.

My favorite part about the experience was their attempt at trying to pander to the Latin American public by decorating it with images/art of popular Latin American figures then staffing it with people that were completely ignorant of it.

The one/two combo of bad food with ignorant staff was priceless.

I've been to the Brazilian Steakhouse in the Mirage, and several others. One in Phoenix, and one, called Picanha in Burbank. Good meals at all of them. This will be worth a try.

Gaucho's Village in Glendale is one of my favs. Traditional Brazilian churrascarria with a good buffet that even non-meat eaters will enjoy.

I went to Picanha in Rancho Mirage and was not impressed with the fare, but was impressed with actual Brazilian waitstaff (at least at that location).

The Samba in Redondo is right close to the pier (it's right across from a popular (why, I do not know) seafood place, but it sure looks more like a nightclub than a steakhouse. (Again kudos to actual Brazilian staffing at that location as well).

FWIW, there is Greenfield Churrascarria in Azuza but it has a decidedly Korean bent to it (not necessarily Korean flavor a la Kogi). The have like 1 Brazilian (head chef/cook/griller) and 1 Portuguese-speaking Mexican waiter - the rest are a mixed lot but not exactly SOUTH American.

ROFL (Korean bent). I have to go out there one of these days just to see it firsthand.

BTW, I believe Samba was a nightclub before. I forget what its name was.

By Brazil in Torrance is OK too, but the buffet doesn't have as much variety as Gaucho's Village.

Another place I'll never go again is Fogo do Chao. I hear the red meat is good/excellent (I usually only have the chicken and buffet), but beyond that, there is little else that is. The buffet at Sizzler is just as Brazilian as the one at Fogo, but at least at Sizzler it won't cost me an arm and a leg.
