LA Dodgers defeat New York Mets 2-1. Neither the Mets nor the Dodgers did anything offensively, but Russell Martin did just enough to drive in the winning run in the eighth inning. The Mets went 0-for-10 with runners in scoring position while the Dodgers went 1-for-9, that one on Russell Martin's single in the bottom of the eighth that scored Orlando Hudson from second base. Livan Hernandez pitched seven innings giving up only one run in the first inning for the Mets. Jeff Weaver pitched five innings giving up one run on four hits and two walks. Ronald Belisario came in to pitch in the top of the eighth and gave up two walks and a David Wright fly ball to center field that advanced the runners to second and third. Brent Leach came in and induced two weak grounders that kept the runners from scoring. With the Dodgers scoring in the bottom of that frame it gave him the win. Jonathan Broxton came in and got his 11th save out of 13 chances. The Dodgers have the day off Thursday.
Seattle Mariners defeat LA Angels 1-0. Ervin Santana had a great outing for his second start of the season going 6 2/3 innings giving up one run on five hits and two walks. But that one run was all the Mariners needed as their pitching shutdown the Angels bats. Starter Chris Jakubauskas went six scoreless innings giving up only two hits and two walks while the bullpen gave up only one hit and one walk the rest of the way.
Notable Notes
With the Cleveland LeBrons choking against the Orlando Howards in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals, I wonder if everything the media said about the Lakers in the Rockets series will be said about the LeBrons now. Blowing 16 point leads and LeBron James cramping up in the waning moments of the game is inexcusable. And can someone from Cleveland not named LeBron James show up?
Lakers will win Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals. With that said let's see Lamar Odom and his vest again.

lebron missed 3 free throws in the end of the game.
UNCLUTCH
Dodgers - Mets series featured three close ones. Yet the Dodgers swept. Love it! Doyers record against the NL West is awesome but it's just silly against the NL East.
I'm thinking the Cavs losing one game by one point to a mostly healthy Magic team is NOT the same as the Lakers needing 7 games to beat an undersized Rockets squad that had 53% percent of its payroll on the bench. When Howard and Lewis go out and LeBron still can't put them away, then we can talk.
And if I remember correctly, you said that series would be over in five. Any criticsm the Lakers got for not dominating that series was a direct result of everyone being so sure they would.
You're right it's not the same. However everything that the media criticized the Lakers on - arrogance, no killer instinct, lack of intensity - was on full display by the Cavs in that second half. They didn't move the ball, and no one not named LeBron James showed up in that half.
I'm not saying the Cavs will lose the series because of this game. Now that they have their game legs under them, they should be fine and not cramping up at the end of games. But it's going to be a tougher series than most people thought.
And yes, I did say the Lakers would beat the Rockets in five. It didn't happen, I was wrong. But while everyone was piling on the Lakers, I made sure to remind everyone of last year's Celtics run.
I love when things are going well and analysts say the great players (LeBron, Kobe) need to pass more, be unselfish, it's a team sport. Then, when games like this one come down the pike for the Cavs, the prevailing analytical opinion is that LeBron needed to shoot more and pass less.
Ugh. The guy put up 49 and missed clutch from the stripe at the end; he can't do it all. I will say that the Cavs have a much better supporting cast than in previous years, and LeBron has certainly elevated his game (how that's possible I don't know), and they should NOT be losing to the Magic, as good as Howard is.
You can't discount the Magic. They are a tough match up which is why they beat the Lakers twice and Cavs twice in the regular season. I would much rather the Lakers face Cleveland in the Finals than Orlando.
