More Cute & New Baby Animals at LA Zoo

Who knew distant relatives to the boar could be so cute? Last week Friday, three Chacoan peccaries were born at the zoo and are currently on exhibit.

"Native to Bolivia, Argentina and Paraguay, the Chacoan peccary was thought to be extinct until 1972 when it was rediscovered by scientists," explained a zoo release. "The species is listed as endangered and there are 52 peccaries living in 11 U.S. zoos which work together to manage this population."

Also, a markhor, an endangered species of wild goat, gave birth to twins, a few days ago (no photos available yet).

Last month, a baby giraffe was born and earlier this year, a slew of youngsters were born including a handful of antelope ground squirrels.
