Julie, I hate everything beautiful that you're coming back from Tokyo with. You're wonderful, and I hate it.

Tokyo looks like LA in that photo... except for that nice park within all that density.

In other words, Tokyo doesn't look like L.A. at all.

Exponential population growth + finite land = beautiful skyscraper-filled modern-looking Tokyo

Exponential population growth + seemingly endless space to spill into and construct = highways and traffic filled Los Angeles

Don't forget a near religious car culture, with an automobile being everyone's personal savior and addiction rolled into one.

I actually found Tokyo to be not all that attractive during the day (and in that way, very similar to LA). It *does* have an ample supply of parks, but *lots* of not very attractive and indeed, not really "modern" (in the positive design-sense of the word) buildings. It was all pretty dull and grey.

At night though, wow. Fan-freakin'-tastic. I fell in love with the chaotic, neon, Blade Runner beauty of it all. Awesome.

LA and Tokyo are my two favorite cities. Day and night- I love being in Tokyo.
