Baseman Raises The Bar With 'La Noche de la Fusion'

Over 2,000 art lovers descended upon the Corey Helford Gallery in Culver City last Saturday for an over-the-top solo exhibition by Gary Baseman. The Pervasive Los Angeles artist not only exhibited his latest work at the gallery, but he transformed the parking lot into the world of the Enlightened Chou. It reminded us more of a big-budget movie premier afterparty than your typical art opening.

Guests mingled with models wearing costumes of Baseman's latest work, played carnivalesque games, and had their picture taken in the Basemen photo-booth which truly created a festival atmosphere at the event. The night climaxed with a live performance of Metamorphosis by Baseman and the come-to-life Baseman characters.

Inside the gallery, the series of Enlightened Chous as interpreted by artists around the world was the stand out piece of the exhibition. The exhibition also featured new drawings rendered inside vintage books that Baseman acquired during his world travels last year.

On May 16th, between 3pm-5pm Baseman will be signing memorabilia at the Corey Helford Gallery and exhibition will be on view until May 23, 2009.

I would've liked to have gone. Alas.

woah!
that's me and my friends in the baseman photobooth!

I ran into someone on Sunday who was there, and he was practically explosive with awesomeness about the event.

The chicks were the reason to go!
