Dodger Talk host Josh Suchon mentioned this in passing after last night's Dodger game on AM 790 KABC, and the folks at Mike Scioscia's Tragic Illness posted this morning, but it looks very evident that Dodger beat writer and Inside the Dodgers blogger Tony Jackson has been laid off from The Daily News. Emails to Jackson's Daily News account have bounced back, and the last post in his blog is about Scott Elbert being optioned back to AA Chatanooga. Update: Kevin Roderick at LA Observed posts about it including an excerpt from Jon Weisman at Dodger Thoughts.

I don't think the fact that L.A.'s premier baseball team, one that demands to be covered from all angles and will now just be reported on by one newspaper, can be understated. Dylan Hernandez of the Times and Gurnick of MLB are great in their own rights, but healthy competition drives success. And that is to say nothing of the fact that Jackson's expertise will now be gone from a paper that needs some modicum of in-depth reporting.
If there was any doubt that the Daily News was near death before, I think we can safely say that they have one foot and three toes in the grave. This is sad news. Good luck Tony!
