When did you first discover Bettie Page?
I had to be about fourteen or so. Growing up in Los Angeles and not really fitting the tan, impossibly thin, beauty standard it's almost difficult to explain what a profound effect her fleshy, fetishy, figure had on me. Her black bangs served as a beacon guiding me in to the world of corsetry and sky high heels that are such an essential element of my personal style.
What inspired you to create this show about her?
Not long after discovering Bettie I took a peak behind the curtain at Golden Apple and discovered pin-up legend Olivia. Worshiped by everyone from Hugh Hefner who puts an original piece of her art in every issue of Playboy to her amazing models ranging from Dita, Margret Cho, Courtney Love, to Pamela Anderson. This past summer my biggest art tart dream came true and I had the opportunity to pose for her I then developed a really lovely friendship with both Olivia and her husband Joel and we started working on a project together. When Bettie passed it evolved in to a tribute show featuring Olivia and other important artists from the Bettie universe.
Olivia's pinup version of Lenora
Well, there are over twenty years of beautiful Bettie by Olivia pieces and she's also created eight brand new watercolors just for the show that are some of my favorite of all time.
Bunny Yeager has five pieces that are some of Bettie's most iconic images including a spectacular huge 40x60 piece of Bettie with a cheetah. Austin Young has created multiple celebrities as Bettie pieces including Perez Hilton, Margaret Cho, Cassandra Peterson aka Elvira, Jane Weidlin from the GoGo's, Jessicka from Jack off Jill and Scarling, Selene Luna from the Cho Show, and a really hilarious one of me spanking myself dressed as Bettie.
Marla Rutherford who recently shot me for the USA Character Project ad campaign that landed my face on everything from the pages of Vanity Fair to billboards in Times Square photographed reigning queen of pinup Bernie Dexter in such a way I think people will have a hard time believing it was all done in camera without the aid of photoshop or any effects.
Colin Christian has created an amazing sculptural piece and Spencer Davis made a Booty Babe Bettie doll. Fashion legend Mathu Anderson photographed a vintage doll as a bound Bettie and Ed Mironiuk created a beautiful portrait of saint Bettie complete with angels bringing her high heels. Steve Diet Goedde photographed fetish diva Midori in Bettie Page's actual gloves. Claudette Barjoud pieces are amazingly cute and Jason Sallin's black velvet Bettie
is very cool.
Austin Young took a photograph of you spanking yourself dressed at Bettie. Tell us about the photo shoot and how that image was out together.
I absolutely love working with Austin. Everything about the shoot was hilarious. Designer Marco Marco who created my outfit stood in for the Bettie Lenora so I knew about where my spanking hand should go for the first shot before it go superimposed with the Lenora Bettie. I had to bite the inside of my cheek to die from laughing. It's really hard to make a risque shot like that come off the right way but I knew Austin would find the right balance between glamour and humor. He's absolutely amazing.

You have done several collaborations with World of Wonder including your Golden Girls Gone While show, and your new web series doNUTS. How did you relationship with World of Wonder begin?
I was a fan of their work for years when my friends Party Monster author James St. James and WOW producer Thairin Smothers introduced me to the owners Randy Barbato and Fenton Bailey. Through a lucky series of events they opened a gallery in the lower level of their beautiful art deco building on Hollywood Blvd and my wacky shows found a home. doNUTS came out of the fact that I have a tv project in development. Since those things take time I wanted to show the world what I've got and since I already have such a great relationship with World of Wonder I thought
WOWtv.tv would be a perfect fit.
The show opens May 2- World of Wonder is well known for their colorful opening night parties. What are you going to wear?
Something that won't split when I get on the spanking machine. It's true, not only do we have Bettie's actual heels in the show but we a real working spanking machine. So something black and slinky and good for spanking would be the honest answer. Hope to see you all there.
Bettie Page: Heaven Bound curated by Lenora Claire opens at World of Wonder Storefront Gallery Saturday May 2, 8pm.

i will definitely be at that show. great interview!
