Los Angeles, meet the 761 Metro Rapid. The CNG-fueled bus takes you right to the front gates of the Getty from either Westwood or Sherman Oaks. Round trip? $2.50 or $5 if you're transferring from another bus. Why start taking the bus? Well, the Getty is raising the parking rate once again, this time to $15. "The Getty likes to call itself a museum accessible to the whole city, but it's starting to sound more like a Bel-Air hilltop institution," sniped Kevin Roderick at LA Observed. Nevertheless, the economy has got everyone in a crunch and this is the second time in a year that the fee has gone up. Museum admission will remain free and the parking fee increase also affects the Getty Villa location.

Nothing wrong with encouraging the use of public transportation.
...or motorcycles/scooters/bicycles (still free).
Damn, I remember it being $5. Like so many places (ArcLight), they keep the museum itself "free" or cheap by jacking up parking fees.
We should ask Getty's Museum why they raised parking fee.
In my opinion there are more people going there now because its free, so to keep up with their expenses they raised fees. Besides $15 is nothing if you take few friends with you. It's per car and if you grab 3 friends with you total will add up to 4 people. It's just 3 bucks per person and you can spend a whole day there and learn something.
I know so many people in this town that don't even know where Getty's Museum or Villa are located.
Ok maybe $3.75 per person, apparently I can't do math.
Well, consider the fact that as part of the larger "economic crisis" the Getty trust lost 25% of its value and are facing making cuts affecting 25% of its staff. It's only logical that an arts institution struggling to maintain itself adjusts the amount a patron contributes; the Getty is obliged (via the parameters outlined very specifically in the Getty will) to not charge admission, so in order to boost revenue, they must raise parking. Carpool. With 2-5 passengers per vehicle you're still only paying $3-$7.50 to see world renowned art collection housed in beautiful buildings and surrounded by beautiful landscaping. Cheaper than a movie, and a hell of a lot more rewarding.
Dodgers Parking = $15.00
Getty Parking = $15.00
Sweet trend.
Carpool, bus, or bike, it's not that hard (well biking might be hard for some, it is on a hill). I'm all for the concept of free or low cost admission and high cost parking, it's a great incentive system.
