More than 900 Bird Strikes Reported at LAX
The data from the FAA has been released showing that there have were 944 bird strikes at LAX between 1990 and 2008. Most all of those incident resulted in little or no damage, according to the LA Times.
If this seems like a high number, one should be wary of comparing to other airpots. "I would caution against comparing one airport's numbers to another airport's numbers because reporting is voluntary," FAA spokesman Ian Gregor said. "An airport that is very diligent in reporting these bird strikes could appear to have more incidents simply because they do a better job of reporting." LAX was noted as being one of the more "diligent" ones.
As for other airports in the area, Long Beach had 148, Burbank logged 218 and John Wayne in the OC reported 214 incidents, all for the same time period.
