LA City Council today approved the third phase of a water conservation ordinance aimed a reducing the consumption of this bitch-thirsty city. Soon, residents and businesses may only water their lawns and other landscaping on Mondays and Thursdays. An earlier phase, which prohibited watering between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. remains in effect. The new restriction begins on June 1st.

I hope this goes for the city too - this morning @ 8:50 I saw the sprinklers on the 10 near Vermont watering the ice plant.
It should go for the city (I'll check), but since the 10 freeway is state run, I'm not sure if this will apply to them, or not.
I still see businesses in Beverly Hills on Wilshire spraying down their sidewalks every 2 days. Enforcement is the key. You can pass all the laws you want, if nobody enforces them they mean nothing.
Exactly, thegodofthor. Unfortunatley Beverly Hills is a totally separate city with its own city council. Guess we have to get on them, too!
All hail the God of Thor! He'll lightning bolt your ass if you water when you're not supposed to. There's your enforcement, ha!
The freeway watering and most parks and rec is done with recycled water.
James
is there a number you can call to rat people out who are breaking this law?
Did anyone think this through?
The entire city of Los Angeles will water their lawns just two days a week — the same two days. Did they actually consider the impact this will have on the water system? If the water system doesn't completely collapse, it will be a miracle.
And good luck trying to take a shower either of those days. Or are they planning to restrict bathing to Tuesdays and Fridays?
I've seen similar conservation plans in other cities before. But at least they had the good sense to split it up, such as allowing even numbered addresses to water on day, and odd numbered addresses the next.

There are approximately two million illegal aliens in Southern California. Using the DWP's estimate that the average person uses 100 gallons of water per day, performing a minute's worth of multiplication to determine the amount of water two million people use in a year and compare that amount to the total amount of water the DWP supplied in 2003, available on the DWP's website, and you'll discover that illegal aliens consume ONE THIRD of the DWP's annual delivery of water! ONE THIRD of the water goes to people who aren't supposed to be living here! There's no water shortage if we remove the source of the water shortage. There's no water rationing if we do as other states are doing and remove the comfort zone for illegal aliens.
As we watch our landscaping investments wither and die from lack of water this summer, ask yourself: Would I rather have a beautifully landscaped home and live my life as I have always lived it here? Or would I rather let my home deteriorate in value because I would rather see illegal aliens selling oranges at freeway on ramps, or waiting for odd jobs at the Home Depot? If you'd rather have your landscaping live, then vote out the liberal democrats who dominate the city council and vote in some Conservatives who will abolish Special Order 40, and start sending illegal aliens home as other states do.
Hmm... Human beings or landscaping? I know which I think is more important!
Sorry, PatrickHenry, but it's the folks who insist on impractical, ecologically unsustainable "beautifully landscaped homes" - in other words, people like YOU - who are responsible. I seriously doubt that I use 100 gallons of water a day, but how much does your lawn use? Multiply that by the number of homes with lawns in LA and I think you get the picture. We live in a DESERT. It was not meant to sustain lawns, golf courses, roses, petunias, etc. There are plenty of beautiful, sustainable options out there, and if you choose not to take advantage of them, then you need to accept responsibility for your part in depleting the water supply. How many "illegal aliens" own houses with fancy lawns?
Hey Pat, Southern California includes LA, but doesn't exclude other cities. So your estimate of DWP providing one third of it's water to illegal immigrants doesn't hold much, well, water.
The fact remains that two million illegal aliens residing in Southern California consume 1/3 of the amount of water that the DWP provides in a year's time. Water consumed ANYWHERE in Southern California diminishes the water available to the DWP. Illegal aliens are the cause of our water rationing, and that does hold water.
There must be millions of sprinkler controllers in the city. All the ones I have seen can save water using shorter watering times, fewer days, or fewer starting times. I don't think many exist that can be set for Mondays and Thursdays. Making all the watering manually controlled is foolish, expensive and just won't work. This would be a tremendous burden on people that would like to comply. Any water saving plan that can be implimanted using a program change has a much better chance of being complied with.
Enough with the illegal aliens whom have been taken advantage of by doing the menial jobs that so called Americans seem to have an attitude of elitist mentality. Grow up and stop your bickering, or maybe you would like to work in the fields (regardless of weather), dishwashers, cooks, janitorial services, garbage collectors, emptying crap from port a pots, etc. Maybe you ought to write to your elitist liberal politicians who are stealing away much more money than the poor immigrant who is trying to support their family. You can accumalate the total income of every illegal alien in the United States of America, and you still won't come close to the amount of money and freedom that the liberal left have paid to those who have supported their campaigns. The ignorance of you all who love to cry like a bunch of babies, need to grow up and address the real enemies who are stealing away our freedoms that those of us have sacrificed ourselves for this country. So those who are complaining after electing the most corrupt government in the history of our nation. Write and complain to your senators if you want to criticize anything, but don't criticize hard working people. By the way, illegal aliens aren't only from Mexico. They come from China, India, Russia, Central America, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq, etc. This country is in danger by exposing the necessities of our inteligence. So educate yourselves and speak without prejudice.
They don't only come from poor countries. I've known illegals from Canada and western Europe, too.
Who said anything about Mexican illegal aliens? There are illegal aliens from all over the world working as highly paid executives in our music industry, I have worked with several. You can name any other field of endeavor, professor thinker, and you'll easily find illegal aliens who are not supposed to be living in Southern California, each and every one contributing to our water shortage.
The poor illegal alien is not an immigrant, he or she is a criminal who should be making their living where they are legal citizens, not here! It is not the responsibility of the United States to provide a better life for anyone who wants to sneak in to our country, or to overstay their visitor's visa.
