Hot Enough? Heat Wave Breaks Records Across Southland

Years old records were broken for the second day in the row yesterday. Here's how it broke down, according to preliminary results from the National Weather Service:

• Downtown's thermometer hit 100, breaking an April 20th, 1956 record when it hit 96.
• LAX hit 95, breaking the 1986 record of... 86.
• In the same year, Long Beach was scorching at 93 degrees--yesterday it was 100.
• Back in 1958, 79 was record breaking. Yesterday, 86 was.
• 99 for UCLA yesterday, 94 for the school in 1958.

As for today, we're it's going to be slightly cooler, but not by that much unless you're near the coast where the sea breeze is expected to make a return. Inland, downtown and the Valleys should be the low 90s.

Wednesday will follow with more slight cooling and then Thursday, a low pressure system will come in bringing temperatures down significantly. By the weekend, temperatures will be back down, likely to be below 70 across the region, the National Weather Service predicts.
