- The curtain closes on the Salonen Era for the LA Phil and starts a new era with Venezuelan Gustavo Duamel.

- The hot weather might have been a concern to some people, but it should have no impact on Coachella which expects to be one of the best attended ever.
- With the summer blockbusters already appearing in trailers on TV and the web, LA Observed noticed that print ads are fading... fast.
- A small quake (2.2) struck just off the Santa Monica coast last night. No damage or injuries were reported.
- Over $500 million of the $3.1 billion federal stimulus package for education is slated for state universities and colleges. Money that according to UC and CSU officials is desperately needed.
- Finally... Defending Academic Decathlon champs Moorpark High head out for Memphis tomorrow to defend the title. They will represent our state as "the-team-to-beat" in the national contest of academic subjects. GOOD LUCK KIDS!
