The Santa Ana Host Lions Club hosts the inaugural Fred Walker Cup charity soccer tournament on Saturday, April 18th at Century High School in Santa Ana.

The tournament is the brainchild of Juan Carlos Centeno and his family, who consider it a tribute to the late Fred Walker Sr. and his work. Walker, a long time Lions Club member and community figure, earned the respect of many through his dedication to the club and its goals, along with his willingness to help at every opportunity.

In addition to honoring Walker, the event will help raise funds for the club's primary goal of providing eye tests and eyeglasses to visually impaired children within the Santa Ana school district. On average, the all volunteer organization is able to help approximately 80 students annually, but the club has not been immune to the economic hardships many of us are suffering today. Funds from Saturday's event will help the club keep pace with prior years and hopefully exceed those numbers.

The 11 v. 11, eight team co-ed tournament includes a group play and single elimination stage. All participating teams are guaranteed a minimum of three matches consisting of two 25 minute halves. First and second place teams from each of the two groups will advance into the elimination stage where a champion will be crowned.

Games are intended for recreational players, providing a great opportunity for those that wish to get a good workout while simultaneously contributing to a good cause. It is open to teams and individuals alike. Prizes and other goodies will also be available and admission for non-participants is free.

Please visit the Fred Walker Cup site for further information on signing up, but act quickly because registration ends today!
