LA Dodgers defeat LA Dodgers 5-2. Chad Billingsley had a rough fifth inning walking the first three batters and somehow getting out with only two runs. But Bills came back in the sixth inning getting the meat of the Padres order, Brian Giles, Adrian Gonzalez and Kevin Kouzmanoff, out in order. Manny Ramirez went 2-for-4 with a walk, a double and three RBIs, and Casey Blake got his first hit of the season - a solo home run in the second inning to left field. After that fifth inning, the Dodgers took the lead after the Manny double bringing Rafael Furcal and Orlando Hudson home. Manny would score when James Loney singled to right. A note: the Dodger bullpen has not given up a run so far this season.
Oakland A's defeat LA Angels 6-4. That bullpen stat could not be said for the Angels. After Nick Adenhart pitched six scoreless innings getting five strikeouts on seven hits, the normally reliable Angels bullpen gave up three runs in the eighth and ninth innings to blow the game. Although the Angels proved they could still hit getting nine, they couldn't string enough hits to put runs on the board. Hell the fourth run the Angels scored in the seventh inning was thanks to Chone Figgins walking, steal second, taking third on the errant throw and a sacrifice fly.
Notable Notes
- The Boston Globe reported that Jose Canseco thinks Manny Ramirez was on the 'roids. Canseco went on to speculate that the possibility of Manny's name being one of the 104 players testing positive for steroids in 2003 caused owners to be gun shy about signing him to a long term big money deal. While Canseco's prior allegations have all proven to be true (with a notable exception of Roger Clemons whom he said he didn't think touched steroids), this is the first time he's talked about a player whom he wasn't teammates with.
- BillyMac is a G. Halos Heaven posted some pictures of Bill MacDonald, FSN host extraordinaire getting some extra curricular action on opening day at Angels Stadium on Monday. According to Tom Hoffarth at The Daily News BillyMac is all right with the pictures as is the Angels. What a G.
- While an Opening Day victory should be filled with joy, unfortunately 27 year old Brian Powers died after getting into an altercation after the game. According to witnesses, during the fight a third guy punched Powers in the head sending him to the ground hitting his head on the concrete. Powers was pronounced dead around midnight on Tuesday. Anyone with information should contact Anaheim police at (714) 765-1944.

Manny was using PEDs... no doubt about that. All of the sluggers of the past 25 years were using something.
Canseco BACKED off on Clemens. In his book Juiced he said it was possible Clemens was using HGH basically because Clemens was so knowledgeable and inquisitive of the subject.
But Clemens and Canseco became friends when both were with the Blue Jays, probably one of the few friendships Canseco has, so Canseco backed off but only after Clemens was indicated by McNamee.
Note to Jimmy- its ROGER CLEMENS... NOT... CLEMONS.

My heart goes out to the family of Nick Adenhart. It seems that you can't go a day without hearing a story of a traffic fatality from negligent drivers. A constant reminder how unexpectedly short life can be and to appreciate every moment of it you get.
I whole-heartedly agree with you Lindsey. I was on my way to work when I heard the news and had to pull over to the side of the street.
I forgot which athlete I wrote about in a blurb in the last couple of weeks who got caught in a DUI (I don't think it was Zach Randolph), but I did mention the monster Leonard Little. There is no excuse to drive drunk, and this just makes me very angry.
