Trust us on this one: April is National Grilled Cheese Month. Just like last year, and the year before that, LAist thinks this is just about the ooey-gooeyest most delicious thing since--or involving--sliced bread.

So how does one go about partaking in the celebration? Well, your options are plentiful. Of course, you can put your own bread and cheese together (may we suggest purchasing the most important ingredient at Andrew's Cheese Shop, the Cheese Store of Silver Lake, the Cheese Store of Beverly Hills, the Artisan Cheese Gallery, or at supermarkets with great cheese like Whole Foods and, surprise, surprise, Fresh & Easy) but it can be oh so fun to go out and get your grilled cheese on.

Several local eateries are getting into the spirit by offering specials for Grilled Cheese Month. The Grande Dame is Clementine, who will be offering 5 different grilled cheese sandwiches that change out weekly, some of which are recipes from top local chefs, and all of which are variations on the theme of Los Angeles. Other places to hit up are Patinette at MOCA, who have a create-your-own masterpiece Grilled Cheese Workshop special for $4. Culver City's Rush Street has a Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup lunch combo for $6, and Ivan Kane's Cafe W as has Hobo Mondays, where you can score Grilled cheese and fries--both cooked in truffle oil--for $10. We're partial to Laurel Tavern's damn good Grilled Cheese ourselves. All of this cheesiness culminates in the Annual Grilled Cheese Invitational, which happens on April 25th; register to enter starting tomorrow, and the location will be announced on the 20th.

One Grilled Cheese mecca that won't be celebrating this month...Meltdown, who just shuttered last week.

i should have mentioned in the post that one variable is the Brie and apple pannini from Auntie Em's in Eagle Rock. drool!

I'm partial to munster on whole wheat, grilled up on my Forman at home.

You should try Meltdown in downtown Culver City! Their whole menu is variations on grilled cheese. It's awesome!

wow, i just read that second to last line in the article and i am now sad... no more meltdown???

I am promising myself that I will finally try the grilled cheese at Lucky Devils.
