LAst Night's Action: Lakers Unravel Again

Charlotte Bobcats defeat LA Lakers 94-84. I was afraid of this game knowing the Laker's troubles with the Bobcats. In fact the Lakers are only 6-8 against the Bobcats. The Lakers shot an abysmal 39% on a team where no one performed well. In fact they outshot the Bobcats 97-68. The Bobcats meanwhile become only the second team to beat the Lakers twice and are within one game of a playoff spot in the East.
Anaheim Ducks defeat Edmonton Oilers 5-3. The Ducks continue to get wins when it counts as they won the first game of their three-game roadtrip against teams either vying for a playoff spot or are already playoff bound. Scott Niedermayer scored a goal in the second period and had two assists to lay the beat down on the Oilers. Prior to this season the Ducks had only won two of sixteen games in Edmonton. This season they have won both matchups in the frozen tundra. The Ducks are now tied with the Nashville Predators for the final spots in the West.
Notable Notes
- After a couple of days of speculation, it became official. John Calipari is the new head coach of the Kentucky Wildcats. He will receive an eight-year $31.65 million contract filled with incentives. Also Kentucky will pay the University of Memphis a $200,000 buyout. This deal will make Calipari the highest paid college basketball coach. Calipari has led UMass and Memphis to the Final Four, both schools with no basketball tradition. He also coach the New Jersey Nets for three seasons making it to the playoffs once in the 1997-1998 season.
- In former Dodgers news chap-ass extraordinaire Gary Sheffield was released by the Detroit Tigers. Rumor has it the Philadelphia Phillies are interested in him.
- How sad would it have been if Andrew Bynum injured his knee while playing at the Playboy Mansion? Well all that hubbub aside, Bynum said he'd be ready to play soon.
