There are some new locations within the immediate Los Angeles area with wildflower reports on this week's Theodore Payne Foundation wildflower hotline including the Mildred E. Mathias Botanical Garden at UCLA and Debs Park in Boyle Heights. Eaton Canyon in Pasadena continues to grow as well as viewing, but over at Poppy Reserve in the Antelope Valley, things are a little different.

"The Poppy Preserve is brown," writes wildflower enthusiast tomsaint11 Flickr. "There are virtually no flowers blooming at all. However, a couple of miles west of the preserve, on the same road, are several areas that are exploding in color," he says about the above photo, which he geocodes on a map (scroll down, click "map") so you can find these flowers with the Tehachapi Mountains in the distance.

You can also catch some good spots of color in Griffith Park, according to MSNBC in a video report.
